Messe Frankfurt announces profitable record sales for 2010

2010 saw Messe Frankfurt further increase its consolidated sales to €448.3 million, confirming its position as one of the most successful trade fair companies in the world. "In the past year, we generated a level of sales that was roughly twice as high as the average sales of all the other major German trade fair venues", said Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt, at the Group's Half-Year Press Conference today.

Approximately 70 percent of sales – €313.8 million in all – was generated at the Group's Frankfurt base. Over a quarter of consolidated sales were attributable to foreign business, which reached a new record level of €113.8 million.

The Asian companies belonging to Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding were the main drivers of sales, accounting for €77.5 million.

Based on these sales, Messe Frankfurt once again recorded a substantial profit, with pre-tax earnings of €41.8 million. A new record EBITDA of €108.5 million confirmed the strength of the company's business performance in the reporting year 2010.

In the reporting year, the Group organised a total of 87 trade fairs and exhibitions worldwide. These were attended by some 2.4 million visitors and featured over 68,500 exhibitors – almost as many as in the record year 2008 before the global economic crisis.

A total of 31 trade fairs and exhibitions took place in Frankfurt. Of these, 14 were organised by the Messe Frankfurt Group itself, registering approximately 22,400 exhibitors and over 917, 000 visitors.

51 trade fairs and exhibitions were organised outside Germany. These attracted around 921,000 visitors and set a new record with 26,600 exhibitors.

Messe Frankfurt expanded its domestic trade fair portfolio with four new events in Frankfurt – M-Days, Creativeworld, Texprocess and public pet fair Maintier – and by acquiring the high-profile Greenshowroom event in Berlin.

As well as extending its hosting of IAA Cars until 2019, the Group's Frankfurt base secured new events such as the BMW Dealer Conference with over 10, 000 participants and the VDA Logistics Congress, which is scheduled to take place in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Outside Germany, Messe Frankfurt also recorded growth at established events such as Automechanika Istanbul and Intersec Dubai. As well as this, the company launched a number of successful international trade fairs including Paperworld Middle East and Playworld Middle East in Dubai, ISH China & CIHE in Beijing and SPS/IPC/Drives Italia in Parma.

Messe Frankfurt aims to further establish successful brands on international markets. NAMM Musikmesse Russia and Prolight + Sound NAMM Russia are to take place in 2012, organised by the Group together with the US National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). Messe Frankfurt is preparing a total of 22 new trade fairs worldwide for 2011 and 2012.
