Intersolar Award presented to most innovative solar companies

For the fourth time running, the Intersolar AWARD was presented to companies at the world's largest exhibition for solar technology, Intersolar Europe, in Munich. The solar industry's international award pays tribute to companies, products and services in the categories of "Photovoltaics", "Solar Thermal Technology" and "PV Production Technology". Prizes were presented to three companies in each category. The awards ceremony took place at the Intersolar Europe Innovation Exchange. The prize is awarded annually by Intersolar Europe organizers Solar Promotion GmbH, Pforzheim, and Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM), in collaboration with the German Solar Industry Association (BSW-Solar). Exhibitors from Intersolar Europe in Munich, Intersolar North America in San Francisco and, for the first time, Intersolar India in Mumbai were invited to put their applications forward, bringing the number of eligible companies to 3,000.

A total of 129 companies from 15 countries seized this year's chance to compete for the Intersolar Award. Ten companies in each of the categories "Photovoltaics", "Solar Thermal Technology" and "PV Production Technology" were nominated in advance for the Intersolar AWARD. From the three groups of nominated companies, three independent juries composed of experts from research, science, industry and the trade press selected the three winners in each category.

Intersolar Award submissions were welcomed for products and solutions to be exhibited for the first time in 2011 at Intersolar Europe or Intersolar North America, or which were exhibited at Intersolar India in December 2010. This included products and services representing significant refinements of existing technology. Submissions must have been trialed or must already be in industrial use. The assessment criteria were tuned to the challenges posed by the market: the degree of technological innovation; the benefit for industry, the environment and society; the profitability of the solution; and proof of its innovative quality.

This year, the Intersolar AWARD reflects the industry's international character to a particularly great extent: For the first time, exhibitors at Intersolar India in Mumbai were also invited to compete for the Intersolar Award.

Intersolar Europe 2011 will take place from June 8–10 at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre.
