Stones/soils at BAU 2011

The section on stones/soils at BAU, the World's Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials, Systems, is traditionally accommodated in Halls A1 and A2. One of the highlights in this section is the presentation by the German cement and concrete industry. In 2011 the industry is promising some exciting innovative and sustainable solutions.

Stones/soils – A 22,000 m2 display of mineral-ore based materials and products in Halls A1 and A2. This segment of the fair, located close by the West Entrance to the exhibition centre, comprises stones/soils, sand-lime bricks, concrete, fibrated and pumice concrete, dry construction, insulation materials, plasters/renders and screeds.

Germany´s concrete marketing board, BetonMarketing Deutschland, is coming along to BAU 2011 with eleven of its partner companies to put on a 1,000 m2 display. Managing Director Thomas Kaczmarek : "We are delighted that as well as providing technological support and advice on the use of concrete our concept for BAU 2011 also involves an opportunity for a real hands-on experience of the material itself."

At past BAU trade fairs the section on concrete has always drawn the crowds, in particular architects and planners. "In 2011 we are again expecting a response equivalent to that we saw in 2009, " says Kaczmarek. Certainly this looks very likely, in view of the attractive partner concept behind the stand and the new exhibits on display – from energy-efficient solutions in residential construction and examples for rational construction to the latest developments in visual concrete.

BetonMarketing Deutschland promotes the benefits and the use of concrete components, ready-mixed concrete and cement. It represents well over 4,000 production sites with a combined annual turnover of 9.9 billion euros (2008) and over 54,000 employees.

Stone and cast stone surfaces, together with the theme of outdoor design, have their own dedicated section at the exhibition, in Hall A4. This display has now grown to over 5,000 m2 in area. The German stone association, DNV (Deutscher Naturwerkstein Verband) is taking a joint stand where it will be presenting over 200 samples of different types of stone from Germany. Close to this will be a display of products and services by companies that specialise in the design of public spaces. This display covers, for example, street furniture, urban and park lighting, barriers and equipment for outdoor play areas.

BAU 2011, the World's Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials, Systems, takes place from 17 to 22 January 2011 at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. Over 1,900 exhibitors from more than 40 countries are expected to take part, and more than 210,000 visitors from around 150 countries. On show at BAU on 180, 000 square metres of exhibition space will be architectural solutions, materials and systems for commercial and residential construction and for interior fitting, both new-build and renovation and modernisation.
