30 Years Old And Still Going Strong

FachPack+PrintPack+LogIntern 2009 in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg ended on 1 October with 33,846* trade visitors (2007: 33,975*) and beaming faces among the 1,338* exhibitors (2007: 1,328*), who had truly not expected such a rush of visitors. Rolf Keller, new Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse and also responsible for the packaging triplets, could not have wished for a better start: "With this strong attendance and impressive show of loyalty by the exhibitors, the exhibition trio proves its true greatness and absolute stability at difficult times. FachPack+PrintPack +LogIntern have impressively confirmed their position as one of Europe's most important packaging exhibitions."

The expertise and practical nature of the popular packaging exhibition again attracted 17 % international visitors. They came to Nürnberg mainly from the neighbouring countries of Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and France. The product spectrum was exactly right for 95 % of the experts. According to the results of a survey by an independent institute, the visitors at the exhibition trio came mainly from industries such as food/beverages, pharmaceuticals/cosmetics, packaging- and logistics-related services, automotive engineering and components, chemicals, printing/paper processing, electrical equipment manufacture and plastic processing, and almost 90 % of them are involved in procurement decisions in their companies.

The main reason for visiting is to obtain information about new products, followed by market orientation, cultivating existing business contacts and paving the way for new ones, exchanging views, training, preparing for investment decisions and concluding contracts. More than 62 % of the FachPack visitors were especially interested in packaging materials and supplies, 43 % in packaging machinery, followed by packaging ancillaries, labelling and marking equipment, services and package recycling. Intralogistics experts sourced information mainly about storage and order-picking systems (51 %), ancillary loading, transport and storage equipment (43 %), conveying systems, and identification, coding and product security systems. 43 % of the trio's visitors expect the economic situation to pick up and 30 % expect it to remain constant.

Powerful exhibition boosts exhibitors' investment expectations
This time the "parent exhibition" FachPack celebrated its 30th birthday, naturally with a comprehensive range of products from the exhibitors, practical special shows, 70s anniversary party, and lots more. Still there in the 30th year of the exhibition were 23 pioneer exhibitors from the first event! Many newcomers, including ten young, innovative companies in a sponsored pavilion, also tested the success of their products and services in Nürnberg. The efficient German packaging industry was traditionally strongly represented with 1, 076 companies, but 262 foreign companies, mainly from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, France and Belgium, also presented their products and services to visitors.

96 % of the FachPack exhibitors were pleased with the overall success of their exhibiting activities, 93 % made new business contacts and a remarkable 94 % expect follow-up business from the contacts made. An unusually large percentage (84 %) of companies have already decided to be there again in 2010.

The varied possibilities for optimizing packaging logistics processes were shown once again by 280 companies with products relevant to LogIntern at the exhibition trio. About half of them were positioned directly in the LogIntern halls 4A and 4. More than 94 % of the exhibiting logistics suppliers summed up their exhibiting activities positively. 90 % expect lively follow-up business, and just as many gained new customers at the exhibition.

Substantial added value at exhibition trio
A total of ten special shows supplemented the exhibitors' product display. The most important presentation at FachPack was devoted to "Sustainable Production and Packing" on an area of some 1,350 m2. 36 exhibitors from the packaging machinery, packaging supplies production and recycling segments showed their new products for facing the challenges of climate change and scarcer resources. They gave practical tips on how the many visitors on all three days of the presentation could implement these good ideas in their own company.

More than 300 guests attended the ceremonious presentation of the German Packaging Award 2009. The Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut (dvi) presented awards to 20 new developments from 18 companies and two student works, which could be admired on the dvi stand. The noted competition has been a recognized forum for packaging innovations for 46 years and ranks as entrée to the Worldstar Packaging Award, the industry's international showcase.

FachPack+PrintPack+LogIntern 2010 take place in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 28–30 September.

The figures for exhibitors and visitors are checked and certified by the Society for Voluntary Control of Fair and Exhibition Statistics (FKM), Berlin.
