BIG+BIH October 2009 Fair

The Department of Export Promotion has cooperated with seven associations to advance the BIG+BIH October 2009 Fair, inviting both domestic and foreign business operators to participate. The Department is confident that this event will be a key to business success and open up new marketing channels for meeting with over 100,000 real buyers with purchasing power and extending both short and long-term operators. Their latest accomplishment has been the launching of publicity plans in main markets, as well as in new markets in hopes of pushing the expansion rate of this year's lifestyle products export value to 0-3 %.

Mr. Rachane Potjanasuntorn, Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion, has disclosed that the Department has scheduled the Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair (BIG+BIH) October 2009 for 13-16 October 2009 for business negotiation days from 10 am to 6 pm, and retail days from 17-18 October, 10 am – 9 pm at the Challenger Hall, Impact, Muangthong Thani on an area of 45, 000 square meters. This exhibition is being held for the 28th time under the concept of "Unique Lifestyle" with support from seven associations, namely, Thai Gifts & Premiums Association, Thai Toy Industry Association, Thai Housewares Trade Association, Thai Stationery and Office Supply Association, Home Decorative Design Association, Northern Handicrafts Manufacturer and Exporters Association (NOHMEX), and Design & Objects Association. Estimates are that there will be 670 companies, 1,700 booths, 15,000 attendants who will participate in the fair on business negotiation days and 95, 000 attendants on retail days.

Mr. Rachane continued that the BIG+BIH October 2009 Fair will be a good opportunity for participants to meet with over 100, 000 domestic and foreign buyers. This year's event has been more widely publicized to cover more target buyers in the main markets such as the USA, Japan and Europe, including sales to the target group in new markets such as Russia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, with emphasis on expanding sales to the business group e.g. project customers in fields such as real estate, hotels, restaurants, spa, schools, department stores with trends toward integrated products and services. It is estimated that the BIG+BIH October 2009 Fair will help promote export and develop lifestyle products, while pushing for the expansion rate of this year's lifestyle products export value to 0-3 %.

In 2009, expectations for exports of lifestyle products are classified according to product types as follows: 375.29 million USD for gifts and home decorative items, 742 million USD for table and kitchen utensils, 379.52 million USD for domestic fabric, and 272 million USD for toys. Nevertheless, export values for lifestyle products for the previous 5 months (January-May) were as follows: 117.10 million USD for gifts and home decorative items, 232.17 million USD for tables and kitchen utensils, 125.69 million USD for domestic fabric, 67.20 million USD for toys, and 26.35 million USD for stationeries and office equipments.

The objective of the BIG+BIH October 2009 is to make Thailand a manufacturing and design hub in the Asian region for products such as gifts, home decorative and household appliances and to become a media for bringing buyers from various countries all over the globe to come and meet Thai manufacturers and designers. The types of products to be displayed in the fair include gifts, premiums, home decorative, artificial flowers and plants, handicrafts, household items, spa products, home textiles, toys, stationery and other design objects.

Not only will the October 2009 BIG+BIH feature newly designed products, but there will also be special activities at Design Hall where a design product exhibition will be held in conjunction with other activities to help push the lifestyle product manufacturing industry toward continual product development. These activities are Design in Thailand Fair, exhibiting three sections including BIG Toys Design 2009, Gift & Home Decorative Design Award 2009: Artwork, and Germany Inspired design exhibition. Product promotion and development exhibitions include Design Forum, Thailand Innovation, DEmark, Design of the year 2009 in cooperation with Silapakorn University and the Thailand Creative & Design Center. The Thai designer promotion and development exhibition featuring the works of talented designers to stimulate the use of products by the young, the experienced, and the professional Thai designers.
