HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2009

The largest fair of its kind, HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2009 will be held from September 2 to 6 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Participants in the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2009 will experience the state-of-the-art facilities of the newly expanded HKCEC, which opened earlier this year. Mr. Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of HKTDC, says: бзWith more space and upgraded services and amenities, the expansion strengthens Hong Kongбжs status as Asiaбжs trade fair capital.

The HKCEC expansion adds 42 per cent more exhibition space бV an additional 19,400 square metres - to the HKCEC and can accommodate about 1,000 standard exhibition booths.

Hong Kong is a leading exporter of watches and clocks in the world. It was the world's second largest exporter of complete watches and complete clocks in terms of both value and quantity in 2006. In 2008, Hong Kongбжs total exports of watches & clocks amounted to US$7.07 billion (around HK$55 billion), an 11% increase over 2007.

In this favourable trading environment, close to 800 exhibitors from around the world are expected to participate in this annual fair.

Last year, the fair attracted 761 exhibitors from 19 countries & regions. Over the years, the fair has successfully established itself as the key international sourcing platform for timepieces of all kinds. Major exhibitors, including Citizen Tokuhan (HK) CO. Ltd., Comtech Watches Company Ltd from Hong Kong and SMB SAS from France have already confirmed their participation in 2009.

HKTDC conducted a watch survey on the Chinese mainland in 2007; around 50% of respondents said that attractive design was the reason they purchased a watch. This response reflects the fact that, as well as being necessities, watches are fashion accessories.

In view of this trend, the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair presents the inaugural Pageant of Eternity. The high-end, complete watches on display and the handsome decor of this themed zone contribute to the upscale ambience of the fair.

Once again, the fair presents Brand Name Gallery, in which buyers can find over 120 original and licensed branded watches and clocks, as well as fine fashion labels and designer collections. Famous brands such as Angel Heart from Japan, CYRIL RATEL from Switzerland, Guy Laroche from France and Jacob Jensen from the Netherlands have confirmed their participation in the fair.

"Brand Name Gallery (BNG) has been opened up to raw space exhibitors that can customize their stands, making the Gallery even more exciting. In another development, the BNG will be opened to public on Sunday, last day of the fair, to enhance public's awareness of the branded watches. Apart from watch parades, lucky draws, performances and instant photo-taking sessions will be conducted to arouse higher public interest.

The inaugural Hong Kong International Watch Conference will be held on the first day of the fair. Heads of world watch associations will be invited to participate in the Conference for exchanging views on the latest development of the global watch industry.

The popular Asian Watch Conference presented by industry leaders will continue to be held during the fair period. In order to encourage creativity and nurture design talents, the 26th Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition will again be a highlight of the fair. This year, themes for Open Group and Student Group are 'Temptation of Jewelleryбж and беBlack Beautyбж."
