West Coast Foodservice And Retail Trade Events To Join In San Diego

The producers of the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo, the largest foodservice focused trade event on the west coast, and Expo Comida Latina, the only industry trade event focused on the Hispanic retail and foodservice markets, today announced plans to hold the 2009 editions of the events together, August 30-September 1, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA. The co-location and event move to San Diego in 2009 offers buyers across retail and foodservice expanded product and educational opportunities in both traditional and authentic multi-cultural markets.

While Expo Comida Latina primarily focuses on authentic Hispanic ingredients, prepared foods and private label products, it also includes an area of the show floor dedicated to Asian foods and flavors – All Asia Food. . According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic and Asian American population will reach 48 million by the year 2010. Packaged Facts has projected Hispanic and Asian markets to top $7 billion and $4 billion, respectively, in sales by 2009.

The Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo, sponsored by the California Restaurant Association, serves up the West Coast's very best products, services and technology to the region's restaurant and foodservice professionals. With more than 61, 000 eating and drinking establishments currently operating in California alone, restaurants will register a projected $56.2 Billion in sales in 2009. With the resulting generation of $4.5 Billion in California sales tax per year, restaurants are indisputably a driving force in both the state employment and revenue sectors.

"We are pleased to co-locate the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo with Expo Comida Latina featuring All Asia Food. Our event has consistently provided a unique forum for restaurant and foodservice professionals to find new solutions, new products and new trends – and the addition of these two events has expanded the product offering and networking opportunities available to all of our visitors" said Ron Mathews, Vice President for Reed Exhibitions.

The new venue opens up an additional buying population base for the show, as it is within driving distance from Los Angeles, Arizona, Mexico and other large markets.

"Los Angeles has been a great home to Expo Comida Latina and All Asia Food for many years, but San Diego offers an opportunity to refresh the show in 2009. With more than 70% of U.S. households buying authentic ethnic food and beverage products today, and Hispanic buying power expected to reach $992 Billion in 2009, the demand for Hispanic and Asian foods is greater than ever. The combination of these events gives access to a broader region of trade buyers looking for products to meet this growing demand. San Diego is a fresh, new, accessible destination we believe will provide greater value to our exhibitors and attendees for their investment and time, " commented Liz Plizga, Show Director for Expo Comida Latina.
