Formex Stockholm Launch ’finland Selected By Formex’

Formex Stockholm is strengthening its position as a leading interior design fair with its new concept 'Selected by Formex'. This new exhibition is a chance for Formex to take a closer look at its Nordic neighbours and promote Nordic design.

First to be featured is Finland and the results will be shown in an exhibition of design objects, hand-picked by Stefan Nilsson, trend-spotter and CEO of Trendgruppen. Synnöve Mork is responsible for the set design of the exhibition.

"Finland is bubbling over with exciting new design, " says Stefan Nilsson. "Finnish design is all about honesty – be yourself and to hell with anyone who doesn't like it. That's the Finnish spirit. Expressed in lots of wood and natural materials."

The 'Selected by Formex' exhibition displays around 50 objects that represent alternative, young, innovative Finland. Finnish classics from names like Iittala and Hackman are included, as well as future classics like the Kiasma chair by Vesa Honkonen.

Some of the exciting new pieces come from Ivana Helsinki, Mikko Laakkonen (Young Designer of the Year), Tapio Anttila, Vivero, Kaamos Group, Com-pa-ny, Doctor Design, Harri Koskinen and Pentagon Design, with everything from wall panels in birch bark to heavy frying pans with botanical reliefs and the latest bowls from Arabia.

Event Manager Susann Moberg Granström is delighted with the new exhibition concept 'Selected by Formex':

"We hope that the exhibition will give masses of inspiration to all of our visitors! The exhibition makes Formex more attractive as a creative meeting place and as an international player, giving visitors access to the very latest trends. Finland is the first of our Nordic neighbours to be featured, as a way of celebrating the bicentenary of the dissolution of the Swedish-Finnish Union."

The next Formex Stockholm will be held 27-30 August 2009 at Stockholm International Fairs. Formex is the biggest trade fair in the Nordic region for interiors, design and giftware. The fair brings together agents, wholesalers, importers, designers, producers and buyers from the Nordic interior design and giftware sectors. Formex is held twice a year, and brings 850 exhibitors face-to-face with 25,000 industry visitors and over 700 media representatives.
