Latin American Pharmaceutical Industry Trade Show

Held by Nielsen Business Media, responsible for putting together the most important trade shows for suppliers, distributors and resellers in Brazil, 14th FCE Pharma (Latin American Pharmaceutical Industry Trade Show) and 14th FCE Cosmetique (International Exhibit for Cosmetic Industry Technology) will showcase the releases in technology for raw materials, packages, machinery, equipment and service provision on May 26-28, at Transamerica Expo Center, in Sao Paulo. After the success of last year, which reached the record of 23,000 visitors, 95% of exhibit area is already taken for the 2009 show.

The events are consolidated as the key ones in Latin America, driven by Brazilian market top performance in recent years. According to General Manager for Nielsen Business Media in Latin America, Ligia Amorim, "expectations for the 14th edition are to keep the expected growth obtained from 2008 and show visitors the importance of these segments to world economy."

In 2007, pharmaceutical industry amounted to over US$1 billion in exports, which meant 20% more than in 2006. Out of the total, about 70% came from sales of pharmaceutical products and the remaining portions from pharmacochemicals and pharmacotechnical products, according to data by Brazilian Association of Fine Chemical Industry (Abiquif) and Group of Executive Professionals from Pharmaceutical Industry (Grupemef).

Morten Drasbek Sorensen, CEO of Finzelberg in Brazil, world leading company in production of plant extracts to pharmaceutical applications, is satisfied with the results of the event and has already ensured its participation in 2009. "We will be at FCE Pharma for the 3rd time because we think it is the best trade show in the pharmaceutical industry, specially for phytomedicine agents. Brazilian market is flourishing in this arena and companies such as ours can set their commercial structure in Brazil, ensuring the quality of products offered to our clients."

Known as the largest platform to cosmetic products development in Latin America, the show is an important forum for industry representatives and professionals in Brazil. The market has experienced 12% growth in 2007, reaching sales of R$19.6 billion, according to Brazilian Association of Personal Hygiene, Perfumes and Cosmetic Industries (Abihpec). For the past five years, the average expansion was 15.1% in sales and 7.4% in volume. As a result of such expansion, Brazil has reached the 3rd position in the consumption world rank, third only to Japan and the United States. The forecast is to have investments amounting to R$100 million for the next two years.

Argentinean company Coster Packaging will introduce its products to Brazilin market there. According to Diego Castro, responsible for Commercial area, "we decided to take part in FCE Cosmetique because it is the largest cosmetic trade show in Latin America. This is a relevant fact because Brazil is the largest consumer of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products in Latin America."
