City Break Exhibition Comes To Gothenburg

Reed Travel Exhibitions is delighted to announce that City Break Expo will be coming to Gothenburg, Sweden for the first time in 2009. The show, which is in its 4th year, will take place from 15th – 16th June 2009 and is a buyer driven specialist travel trade event dedicated to the growth of the city break market.

Companies exhibiting at the City Break Expo consist of city tourist boards, a range of accommodation providers, transport organisations, inbound tour operators, DMC's, city attractions and entertainment. Representation from over 80 European cities will be in attendance.

Buyers attending City Break represent some of the leading outbound tour operators. Adhering to a strict qualification process, they are serious about doing business and have the purchasing and contracting authority within their company to do so. Buyers from previous years include representatives from Expedia, Thomas Cook, Kuoni, Airmiles, Gullivers Travel Associates and Jacob online.

Short breaks have steadily increased their share of the overall overseas market over the past five years and spending on short breaks abroad rose by an estimated 9.8% in 2007 compared to a 4.2% growth in the overall tourism market. 7.5 million short breaks abroad were taken over the year and the market that was worth £600 million a decade ago is now worth over £2 billion and accounts for one in six holidays taken. Companies aiming to tap into this market are expressing a considerable amount of interest in exhibiting at City Break 2009.

The growth of low cost airlines has opened up various cities, routes and markets to people around the world that may never have previously chosen to visit them and has allowed destinations to be obtainable for all.

High speed rail has also contributed to the rise in the short break market in Europe. European trains are among the most sophisticated forms of transport in the world with Eurostar, French TGV, TGV Lyria, ICE and Thalys redefining the European rail travel experience with style, comfort, speed and design. For journeys within four hours length, European trains already have a market share of over 70%.

City Break 2009 is a platform allowing key city break suppliers in Europe to meet with senior purchasing managers from leading tour operators and online agents for pre-scheduled appointments. Each year the event moves around Europe to showcase the attractions of different cities and this year it is taking place in the beautiful Swedish city of Gothenburg.

Mark Walsh, Reed Travel Exhibitions Group Exhibition Director said, "We are delighted to be bringing City Break to Gothenburg in 2009. We see the city as being a perfect location for the 2009 show due to its easily accessible location in the heart of Scandinavia, the biggest outbound market in Europe, a region that is hugely popular within the short break tourism market. Reed Travel Exhibitions has experienced a noticeable increase in interest in the show year on year and we look forward to a successful event in 2009."

Claes Bjerkne, CEO Göteborg & Co commented, "Scandinavian cities offer great opportunities for travel agents and tour operators in the rapid growing city break segment. Gothenburg welcomes one of the most important events in 2009, Reeds City Break Exhibition, its exhibitors and customers. We will take this opportunity to show Scandinavian efficiency and hospitality, and to provide visitors with a network of companies eager to do business."
