Less Crisis In The Sunlight

For thermal solar power and photovoltaics, 2008 brought very good results. And for 2009, despite the economic crisis and funding difficulties, forecasts are optimistic. The new exhibition showcase for this strongly developing sector is Enersolar+, which will take place at fieramilano from 25 to 28 November 2009. Important information for us all: in 2008, according to the Rapporto Comuni Rinnovabili 2009 (Renewable Municipalities Report 2009), published by Legambiente, the Municipalities that have installed at least one plant for clean energy on their territory have increased, compared to the previous year, by more than 100%. A growth that has affected the entire sector for the production of energy from renewable sources and, therefore, also thermal solar power and photovoltaics.

In the photovoltaic sector, the forecasts for the future from Gianni Silvestrini, President of Exalto and Scientific Director of the Kyoto Club, are even more optimistic. "Despite the economic crisis and funding difficulties, in our country the boom of photovoltaics is continuing, with a rhythm of 60-70 MW per month. This trend is facilitated by the 15-20% cost reduction of modules and by the good Italian tariffs, the best in Europe. Considering this ongoing evolution, the Kyoto Club has upped its estimates and forecasts that for 2009, installations will, on the whole, be more than 1,000 MW, and in 2010 the forecast is now for 2.000 MW".

According to forecasts from ANIE, la Federazione Nazionale Imprese Elettrotecniche ed Elettroniche (National Federation of Electro-technical and Electronic Companies) which is part of Confindustria, and GIFI, il Gruppo Imprese Fotovoltaiche (Group of Photovoltaic Companies), in 2009 in Italy there will be more growth, with the installation of a further 250 MW of photovoltaic modules. By 2020, in our country there could be 16 GW of installed plants, which would contribute to the creation of about 113,000 new jobs, with an annual production of 20 TWh of electricity and savings of emissions into the atmosphere of 10 million tons of CO2.

Positive news also from solar thermal power.
According to Assolterm, l'Associazione Italiana Solare Termico (Italian Association of Thermal Solar Power), in our country the Italian market reached, in 2007, 231 MW of installed power - equal to 330,000 sq.m. - with a growth of 77% compared to 2006. Total installed power is now about 760 MW and this means that installed power has reached one and a half million square metres. As far as 2008 is concerned, the installed area is estimated at 400,000 sq.m., equal to 280 MW. Ever more important is the "economic weight" of the sector, which employs about 10, 000 people, and, in 2008 had a turnover of EUR 400 million.

EnerSolar will be held together with Greenergy Expo, the new event dedicated to renewable energies. From 25 to 27 November, during HTE-Hi.Tech.Expo (the show dedicated to science, research and advanced technologies), PV Tech Milano will also take place, the international fair for the photovoltaic industry and technologies.
