Annual Display Week Business Conference

The Society for Information Display (SID), the global organization dedicated to the advancement of electronic display technology, and DisplaySearch, the worldwide leader in display market research announced that Mary Lou Jepsen, founder and CEO of Pixel Qi, and Thomas Holder, investment director at Intel Capital, will deliver keynote addresses at the upcoming SID Business Conference. Produced through a new collaboration between DisplaySearch and SID, the business conference and both keynotes will center on "Commercializing Display Technology-Opportunities in a Down Market." This year's event will be held on Monday, June 1 during the 47th annual SID International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, dubbed Display Week 2009, in San Antonio, Texas.

"With this year's Business Conference focusing on opportunities to commercialize display technologies in a downturn, both Mary Lou Jepsen and Tom Holder will provide unique insight into display commercialization from the perspective of an entrepreneur and an investor, " noted Paul Semenza, DisplaySearch's senior vice president. "We are very excited to have two industry veterans who have been through the process of developing display technologies and bringing them to market."

"The caliber of speakers we're lining up for the Business Conference speaks volumes to the value this conference promises to bring attendees this year, " said Dr. Paul Drzaic, SID president. "Despite these trying times, technologies and applications are being developed now that will drive the profits of the electronic display industry in the future. This conference, together with the other events we have lined up during Display Week, will provide critical insights for those charting these trends and uncovering opportunities."

Mary Lou Jepsen, founder and CEO of Pixel Qi, will address the challenges of bringing new technologies to market, encompassing technology creation, manufacturing partnerships, customer/applications development, and investment. Jepsen was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in May 2008 for her work in founding Pixel Qi and her endeavors with One Laptop per Child, where she was the first employee and chief technology officer. In addition to these accomplishments, she was a prime architect of the XO laptop. She transitioned it into mass production, invented the laptop's sunlight-readable display technology and co-invented its ultra-low-power management system.

Thomas Holder, investment director for Intel Capital, will share his perspective on the display commercialization process from the viewpoint of an investor looking for both return on investment and a strategic fit with one of the world's largest technology companies. As the lead for Intel Capital's Mobility Hardware efforts, Holder drives investment activity in the Mobility Group in displays and adjacent hardware platform technologies. His responsibilities include coordinating a worldwide investment effort for the investigation, diligence and investment of more than $75 million in 12 companies.

New Business Conference Format
In addition to the keynote presentations, the Business Conference will feature insight from companies representing all facets of the display supply chain-providing a closer look at display market trends, case studies and assessments of the commercialization process, as well as intellectual property. The afternoon session will showcase emerging display technologies, followed by a series of executive panel discussions with top minds from companies developing new technologies:

* Competing with TFT-LCD: OLED, MEMS and other alternatives
* Enhancing TFT-LCD: touch and other features
* Creating new applications: pico projectors, bistable and other low-power displays

The conference will conclude with representatives of the LCD, plasma and OLED industries to discuss the opportunities of the television market for new display technologies.

Confirmed participating companies include: DisplaySearch, DuPont Displays, Elo TouchSystems, Liquavista, Microvision, N-Trig, Light Blue Optics, LCD TV Association, nFlexion, OLED Association, Pixtronix, Plasma Display Coalition, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, UniPixel and Universal Display Corp.

Kicking off the display industry's premier weeklong gathering (May 31-June 5), this year's Business Conference will be held on Monday, June 1 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, in San Antonio, Texas, during Display Week.
