IFSEC launches Apprentice Skills Challenge 2009

Apprentice installers will go head-to-head at IFSEC 2009, the world's largest annual security event. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Apprentice Skills Challenge will once again put installers to the test with the opportunity to win fantastic prizes and industry acclaim. Sponsored by CSL Dualcom and run in association with Skills for Security, the SSAIB and the NSI, the challenge takes place over the four days of IFSEC in hall 5 of the NEC Birmingham.

In line with the evolving landscape of the security industry, this year's challenge is set to test a greater variety of skills and knowledge than in previous years. Contestants will be required to:

• Take a short written test covering European Standards
• Critically assess a previously installed intruder alarm system
• Re-commission the system to PD6662 EN standards
• Add additional protection to the system

Since its inception in 1999, the Apprentice Skills Challenge has evolved to give up-and-coming installers an opportunity to demonstrate their roster of skills. In such a rapidly changing industry, leading national companies also appreciate the fantastic opportunity this challenge gives their apprentices. It is for this reason that applications to the Challenge exceed the available spaces every year and 2009 is set to be no different.

John Stanton of Skills for Security comments: "Keeping up to date with the evolving landscape of the security industry is a challenge for even the most experienced installer, let alone for an apprentice installer. What this challenge offers is a chance for these young professionals to demonstrate their abilities in front of their peers. I am in no doubt that the standard of entry will be similarly high to previous years."

Apprentices interested in taking part in this year's Challenge should contact John Stanton at Skills for Security at John.Stanton@skillsforsecurity.org.uk. Alternatively, please visit www.ifsec.co.uk/pmifsec09/ASC.html for further information or to download a brochure.

IFSEC 2009, the world's largest annual security event, is co-located with The Facilities Show, Fire & Rescue, International Firex and Safety & Health Expo at the NEC Birmingham and will take place from 11-14 May 2009.
