VDB And JSM Horrified By Massacre In Winnenden

The two German associations, the Verband der Deutschen Büchsenma-cher und Waffenfachhändler e.V. (VDB) and the Verband der Hersteller von Jagd-, Sportwaffen und Munition (JSM), have reacted to the mas-sacre in Winnenden with horror and shock.

"Our deepest sympathy and sorrow go out to the relatives of the victims and those who had to experience this devastating shooting rampage at close range, " said Wolfgang Fuchs, General Manager of VDB.

Both associations also support the prudent politicians who do not favour a hasty discussion on further tightening of the firearms law. As German firearms law is already one of the most restrictive in the world, the two associations advocate avoiding hasty conclusions and not drawing any conclusions from this dreadful act until an intensive appraisal of the incident has been completed.

"Following the massacre in Erfurt, the firearms law was considerably tightened by politics in a spontaneous action. Unfortunately, as shown by this horrendous act in Winnenden, these measures also failed to prevent the present perpetrator from carrying out his plan. As far as is known, the applicable regulations on the storage of guns were not complied with in this case and the Firearms Act was violated, " said lawyer Klaus Gotzen, General Manager of JSM.
