Altenpflege+ProPflege 2009

The successful special show "lebensräume" (living areas) at Altenpflege+ProPflege in Nürnberg from 24-26 March 2009 presents spectacular innovations in architecture, interior design, interior decoration, public design and product design for the sixth time – this year with the focus on "Future Care". In addition, forums at the exhibition offer sound knowledge on the theme blocks of management in out-patient and in-patient care institutions, professional care and catering and home economics.

The special show "lebensräume 2009 – leben.wohnen.arbeiten." (living and working) in hall 3 is intended for directors, operators and managers involved with out-patient and in-patient care or the design of public spaces. The special show also provides a unique opportunity for all visitors at Altenpflege+ProPflege to take a look at the future of patient care.

Lebens(t)räume – competition for students
The international students competition "lebens(t)räume" organized as part of the special show by Vincentz Network and International Forum Design GmbH (iF) is highly future-orientated.

The competition focuses on visions and problem solutions for buildings, rooms, products and services based on the aspects of universal design and assisted living. Assisted living covers products, architecture and services for helping people in special situations to maintain and support a largely self-determined lifestyle. The universal design category is for entering designs that can be used or lived in by as many users as possible with a wide range of abilities and skills. The competition called for "design for all" and not "design for old people". The award presentation takes place on 24 March.

The old people's centre of the future
How will the residents of old people's institutions live in future? The "in-the-middle-of-it room concept" at the special "lebensräume" show provides some impressive answers. The residents of the future are today's generation: mobile and modern, open-minded and with an affinity for technical things. The newly developed room concept presented for the first time at Altenpflege+ProPflege now shows this. "In-the-middle-of-it concept" is an innovative, integrative and activating concept for a living area that is dedicated to the needs and wishes of the people requiring care.

"Living, well-being, dining à la carte" – the motto for modern home economics" Increasing attention is being paid to the well-being of the elderly. Practical ideas and concepts for this are presented at the "International Domestic Services Forum" in hall 5, which will be opened by Bavarian Minister Christine Haderthauer on 25 March. Her introductory speech focuses on the variety of living in old age. She is followed by Professor Bernd Seeberger, who discusses the results of the study on "Permanently present staff in in-patient communities". The best practice cases presented after this give elderly care staff and management an insight into the strategies of other institutions and responsible organizations. The "International Domestic Services Forum" is a cooperation between the Bavarian Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs, Family and Women, the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Hauswirtschaft and Vincentz Network.

Four forums for decision-makers in the sector
The visitors at Altenpflege+ProPflege in 2009 again have the opportunity to use many free information platforms. For the first time, these forums are divided into various blocks of care themes and identified by different colours for better orientation.

The "Old People's Home Management Forum" in halls 3 and 5 offers decision-makers from the in-patient elderly care segment the necessary information and tips on issues like sourcing aids and appliances, admission and discharge management, quality and cost effectiveness in running old people's homes, catering and personnel marketing.

The "Home Care Forum" in hall 2 provides extensive background knowledge for managers and proprietors of out-patient care services, care management and care staff in the home care field. At the forum chaired by the Bundesverband Medizintechnologie e. V. (BVMed), recognized experts explain and discuss issues like sourcing and quality, care of wounds, bedsores, incontinence and stomas, and the principles of palliative care.

The many pioneering themes of the talks at the "Catering and Housekeeping Forum" in hall 4 include the attractive design of the living environment, tableware, planning and equipping home kitchens and the use of specialized data processing solutions.

The first item on the programme of the "Elderly Care Forum" on 25 March, also in hall 4, is the selection of the "Secret Heroes" – people who are dedicated to the well-being of patients in elderly care institutions beyond their occupational duties. They are chosen by the readers of the magazine "Altenpflege". After this the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth presents its campaign "A Vocation in Modern Elderly Care". This forum with interesting participants and the winning entries in the competition "Modern Elderly Care Today" is intended for trainees and care staff and management.
