Ed Parsons Will Give A Conference At Globalgeo 2009

The geospatial technologist of Google, Ed Parsons, will give a conference on the 5th of March at 12 p.m. in Barcelona's Congress Centre on occasion of Globalgeo 2009. During his address, entitled "Geography in your pocket and in the cloud", Parsons will explain how geospatial technology on latest generation websites has been adopted by global communities for both the use and creation of geospatial data. Access to the conference will be free for visitors and exhibitors of Globalgeo.

Parsons has the responsibility for communicating Google's mission to organise the world's information using geography and tools including Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile. He was the first Chief Technology Officer in the 200-year-old history of Ordnance Survey (Britain's National Mapping Agency), and was instrumental in shifting the focus of the organisation from mapping to Geographical Information.

Ed came to the Ordnance Survey from Autodesk, where he was EMEA Applications Manager for the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Division. During his tenure, he helped Autodesk to become one of the key providers of GIS software. Earlier in his career he was a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University, where he helped to establish Europe's first undergraduate course in GIS.
