Application Deadline Approaches for iBIO

The Illinois Biotechnology Industry Organization (iBIO) PROPEL initiative and the iBIO Entrepreneurship Center (iBIO EC) announced that only four days remain to register for the iBIO IndEx Business Plan Competition. Formation-stage and early-stage life sciences companies in Illinois interested in competing for a $10, 000 cash award may submit applications until 5pm on Friday, February 6, 2009. There is no fee required to enter the competition. Sponsored by PROPEL and the iBIO EC, the iBIO IndEx Business Plan Competition includes a panel of prestigious life sciences community members that will score each application.

Up to six companies will be selected to advance to the contest finals at the 2009 iBIO Industry Expo (iBIO IndEx) on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Following a five-minute oral presentation and brief Q&A, judges from the investor community will award the $10, 000 cash prize to the top competitor.

"The iBIO IndEx Business Plan Competition is a significant opportunity for young life science companies in Illinois. The chance to showcase your company to a group of very experienced judges as well as a sophisticated health care community is quite rare. In addition to feedback from the judges, entrants will have a large audience of potential investors and strategic partners and the cash prize can be important to young companies, " said Tom Churchwell, managing partner, Midwest Venture Partners, a member of the expert panel of judges.

Each finalist company will receive one complimentary pass and additional passes at reduced rates to the 2009 iBIO IndEx at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. This year's conference, the premier life sciences event in the Midwest, features Abbott Chairman and CEO Miles White; Biotechnology Industry Organization President & CEO James Greenwood; expert presenters and panelists in the fields of nanotechnology, regenerative medicine, ag-biotech, and early-stage investing; along with networking opportunities during breakfast, lunch and the dinner reception.
