Cevisama Indi Industrial Design Competition Winners Announced

The winners of the Bathroom and Ceramic Tile Industrial Design competitions organised by CEVISAMA have already been announced. The jury, which included Alejandro Benavent, Oriol Guimerá, Antonio Barba Juan, Juan Olcina and Pierluigi Cattermole, decided unanimously to award the first prize of 3,600 euros in the ceramic tile design competition to a creation titled I-CON, which was entered by International University of Catalonia student María Amat Busquets.

The jury was particularly impressed by the proposition of this system, which is centred on basic shapes that, together, can create an evocative architectural texture that can be tailored to different spaces.

The 2,400 euro second prize was won by a design titled Al'Plato by Carles Rodrigo Monzó of the CEU-Cardenal Herrera Oria University. The prize was awarded because the design proposes a new storage system, de-contextualizes its role in an original way and lends an element of fun to using a plate every day.

The jury decided to award third prize - 1, 200 euros - to "Naiara" by Abel Llaria Orbegozo of the College of Art and Advanced Design of La Rioja. What the jury appreciated especially about this design is how the one item is at once a gutter, a planter and a window sill. It is thus an integrated solution for finishing off large windows as it combines several uses in the one piece.

The jury decided not to award a first prize in the International Bathroom Equipment Industrial Design Competition. It did however agree that second prize - 2,000 euros - should go to Alberto Arzo Moncunill of the Jaime ! University in Castellón for his creation titled "Bubble Soap". The jury felt that the notion of fun had been incorporated creatively into the design of an item that is an essential part of our daily hygiene. It introduces the concepts of fun, play and entertainment in a simple approach to the "Liquid Dreams" theme of the competition.

The 1,500 euro third prize was won by Lull Lie, a design by University of Oporto students Monika Dominak and Marta Gruchala. The grounds for awarding it the prize were that it posits a new type of product that combines the essential elements of a bath, hydrotherapy and relaxation, that we need in our day to day lives, in a single unit, thus creating a new space in the home.

The award ceremony will take place at CEVISAMA at 13.00 hours on 13th February.
