Automechanika Shanghai 2008

A record breaking 1,600 exhibitors have already confirmed to attend the fourth Automechanika Shanghai show to be held in Shanghai, China from 10 – 12 December 2008. This is an 80 percent increase in hall space at the Shanghai New International Expo Center to 92,000 square meters, compared to last year's 51,000 sqm.

This reconfirms Automechanika Shanghai as one of China's leading professional forums for the automotive parts, components and equipment. The show is also the world's second largest Automechanika after Automechanika Frankfurt which celebrates its 20th anniversary, 16 – 21 September 2008. Altogether there are 13 Automechanika trade shows around the world.

"With more than 1,600 exhibitors from 17 countries for Shanghai we have already surpassed our 2007 figure of 1,250 exhibitors, " said Fiona Chiew, Group Manager, Trade Fairs, Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong.

"We expect a final figure of 1,800 exhibitors, spread over eight halls and more than 30,000 visitors turn up for the show this year. This reflects the tremendous interest in China's automobile industry and its automotive parts, equipment and service supplier sector."

For domestic and international buyers, Automechanika Shanghai is an important sourcing venue, while for exhibitors it is an opportunity to boost sales and gain exposure as well as meeting potential Chinese partners.

In line with the Automechanika global brand format, a complete range of products from low to high-end and basic to hi-tech will be displayed in five categories: Parts & Systems, Accessories & Tuning, Repair & Maintenance, IT & Management, and Service Station & Car Wash.

Strong interest shown by international industry associations

A growing number of overseas associations are organising groups to showcase their products in special international pavilions. There are currently four pavilions The Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council is organising a pavilion to showcase rubber parts products.

The Taiwan pavilion is supported by the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei. The German pavilion is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in cooperation with the German Association of Trade Fair Industry (AUMA).

Manufacturers Association (MEMA)and for the first time ever is certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Also for the first time, the Spanish Automotive Equipment and Components Manufacturers Association (SERNAUTO), the Chamber of Commerce of Brescia, Italy (Probrixia) and UBI France are arranging delegations to the show.

Automechanika Shanghai will house thousands of quality Chinese manufacturers and suppliers from all over the country, including regional group pavilions from Taizhou, Ningbo, Yuhuan, Ruian, Wuhu and Quanzhou; and key auto production provinces such as Guangdong, Hubei, Shichuan, Shandong and Jilin. Participants represent industry groups that include motor and diesel engines, electrical appliances and parts and accessories. The show acts as an important gateway for buyers to reach these important exhibitors who are offering high quality and competitive value products.

Some of the best-known brand names will be exhibiting at the show in the Parts & Systems category including Dongfeng Motor (Parts and Components Business Unit), Wanxiang Group, Shanxi Fast Gear and China North Industries. Heading up the Repair & Maintenance category will be global giant Bosch, Corghi and Snap-on, and representing China, Launch Tech and Maxima.

A series of informative fringe programmes featuring the latest developments and market intelligence have been arranged for those attending the show. Automechanika Academy: These sessions will feature invited industry experts to discuss automotive OE and aftermarket topics.

Automechanika Match-Making Forum: A one-on-one appointment scheduling service enabling buyers to meet with suppliers onsite according to their pre-set criteria.

The 4th International Forum on Service Outsourcing in Manufacturing Industry: This forum covers a variety of topics including Industry Standard of Service Outsourcing of Chinese Automobile Industry, Third Party Logistics Management of Automobile Industry, Tool Management and Chemical Product Management.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's fast-growing economy has created a sound environment for the automobile industry with domestic sales expected to grow by 12 percent to hit 10 million this year. Latest figures show that over 4.3 million vehicles were sold in the first five months this year, up 17 percent from the same period last year, despite a downturn in business vehicle sales.
