The International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipmen

The countdown has begun for MATELEC'08, the International Exhibition of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, an event organised by IFEMA that is due to take place between 28th October and 1st November next at Feria de Madrid. Alongside its extensive exhibition, featuring the attendance of nearly 1,000 participating companies, MATELEC '08 will also stand out for the specialised conferences and debates it offers to all visitors at this leading forum for analysis. In this respect, a wide range of themes will enable professionals to gauge the current state of sectors as diverse as the following: electricity, electronics, telecommunications, lighting, industrial equipment, etc.

Tuesday, 28th October

One of the star events at the conferences will consist of the presentation of the eDoceo Project, which will offer an analysis of the current state of the installation sector and address different kinds of business solutions regarding four key concepts: energy saving and energy efficiency; the monitoring and efficient use of energy; renewable energies; and accessibility. This project, which has been created by the Organising Committee of MATELEC and the National Federation of Electrical and Telecommunications Installation Businessmen of Spain (FENIE), will take place in Hall 2, offering three main services: a technical-practical exhibition, a guide service and a technical information and training service.

Wednesday, 29th October

MATELEC will also provide the setting for a magisterial address by the architect, Antonio Lamela, the creator of the famous Colón Towers, the man responsible for the renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and the designer of Terminal 4 at Barajas International Airport, among other emblematic buildings. This architect and winner of the Rey Jaime I Award for Town-Planning, Landscape and Sustainability, will present a paper entitled, "Adaptation to Current Times´. In this address, the architect will talk about the need to ´move with the times we find ourselves in, whatever the climate may be that restricts our every action´. In this respect, Lamela will tackle the question of adapting ´specialised electrical and electronic applications, depending on the specific part of the country, the city and its elements´.

The "Asia Invest Business Meeting´ will commence on the same day, organised by the Spanish Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Electrical and Electronic Material, AMEC AMELEC, whose aim is to promote trade agreements, investment, technology transfer and joint ventures among companies operating within the European Union. Nearly 40 Asian companies will hold a series of personalised interviews with those Spanish and Italian companies that wish to take part in the event and establish closer links with Asian industry.

A Conference on Automated Home Technology (Domotics) will also take place on 29th October, featuring a number of speakers from CEDOM, KNX España and Lon Mark España, the leading home automation associations on the market, who will highlight the benefits of automated devices in terms of the convenience, energy savings, security and communications improvements this technology can deliver.

For its part, ABM, one of the industry´s most prestigious distributors of electrical material, will present another of the most important conferences at this edition of the fair, also taking place on 29th October. This Conference will feature contributions from Fernando Cogollos, the Managing Director, and Gonzalo Errejón, the Marketing Director, at ABM. Cogollos will offer a review of the current situation within the distribution sector, whilst Errejón will be responsible for addressing the issue of business excellence within the electrical material distribution sector.

Thursday, 30th October

On 30th October, the Specialised Conferences will continue with th e staging of the Seventh International Congress of Telecommunications Installation Companies, organised by the Madrid Association of Telecommunications Installation Companies, AMIITEL. As explained by Jesús Rubio, the Manager of AMIITEL, the papers at this Congress will focus on ´the management of the crisis within the industry, the compulsory nature of telecommunications infrastructure maintenance in buildings, the digitalisation of housing associations and the reform of legislation; this will be accompanied by a pure debate in which the industry will have the opportunity to speak its mind´.

Friday, 31st October

The 31st October will also feature a range of activities, including a series of conferences organised by AFME, the Association of Electrical Material Manufacturers, regarding energy efficiency and building requirements for works as a whole. These papers will address the latest new features regarding legislative requirements within the sector.

On the same day, CEDOM will organise a Specialised Conference on Energy Saving and Efficiency in Homes and at Companies, at which it will present the Guide entitled ´How to Save Energy By Installing Automated Devices within the Home: Greater Convenience and Security´, which is published by AENOR and aimed at end users. The purpose of this Guide, whose elaboration featured the collaboration of IDAE, the Institute for Energy Saving and Diversification at the Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism, is to raise awareness of the contribution that automated home devices can make in terms of boosting energy saving and promoting responsible energy consumption among members of the public.
