Viscom Frankfurt 2008 The Biggest Of All Times

It will be the biggest viscom ever held in Frankfurt: the International Trade Fair for Visual Communication will open with more than 260 exhibitors at the end of October. Enlarging the exhibition area by ten percent had already become necessary back in June; now the space occupied by the companies is more than 60 percent larger than at the previous event held in 2006. "With this excellent result, viscom emphasizes its function as the leading trade fair for visual communication, " explains viscom Director Petra Lassahn. Meanwhile, the driving forces are not only the 'classic' fields of advertising technology, light advertising and large format digital printing, but also new fields such as digital signage and industrial inkjet printing.

Not only has the fair been very well accepted by the market, the two awards record very lively participation as well. For the viscom INNOVATION AWARD more than 40 entries were submitted. They are spread evenly across all categories: Digital Printing/Large Format Printing, Textile Processing, Light Advertising as well as Signmaking for POS (finished products such as presentation systems to be set up at the point of sale) and Signmaking for Machinery, Materials, Software, Tools, Application Technologies and Installation Techniques for the manufacture of advertising technology products.

The jury consisted of the editors-in-chief of the magazines Large Format, SIP, TVP and WERBETECHNIK as well as, for the first time, of the Dutch Sign Pro Europe. The FVL Fachverband Lichtwerbung and ZVW Zentralverband Werbetechnik was also represented on the jury. The decision the judges had to make was not an easy one. But in the end, only those new products that hold the promise of a definite added value for the visual communication sector were successful.

The Best Practice Award in the field of Digital Signage also attracts considerable interest. The three categories for which manufacturers, service providers and retailers can register their products are Retail Signage – digital signage applications in the retail sector; Information Signage – digital signage applications showing information on public display systems and Routing – digital signage applications as routing systems in public areas. The products will always be entered by suppliers and clients.

Among the companies who submitted their products this year are well-known names like Postbank Filialbetrieb AG and MediMax Zentrale Electronic GmbH, both together with 42Media; Deichmann together with Moodmedia; Audi together with screen NT GmbH; Opel/General Motors together with Cybay New Media GmbH; EDEKA - Metrovision GmbH / poscomm GmbH Projektgesellschaft; Neue Messe Stuttgart - DIMEDIS GmbH; Deutsche Rentenversicherung Düsseldorf together with komma.tec redaction GmbH; TV Wartezimmer GmbH & Co. KG together with ScreenNetworking GmbH; Deutsche Lufthansa AG together with MultiVision GmbH; Stadt Osterode together with TVlokal and Deutsche Bank AG together with mCon solutions Ltd. & Co. KG are among those.

Both awards will be presented at viscom frankfurt 2008: the presentation ceremony will be held during this year's viscom night on the evening of the second day of the fair at the German Film Museum.

The two Digital Signage Days on 30 and 31 October will deal with fundamental issues in this field. There is increasing evidence that especially in the field of digital signage content production in advertising is a major problem. Both among customers, planners and designers and among suppliers of advertising space there is still considerable need for clarification. viscom frankfurt intends to provide a platform to discuss these issues in this "city of advertisers" and to bring all stakeholders together. Designing creative content suitable to the medium is a key to the future success of digital signage. The second day will treat this topic in depth.

The Content Lab to be held on the afternoon of the second day will explore the theme "One host - four European creative agencies - one topic: creative content design possibilities for digital signage and demonstrate philosophies, working methods and exemplary cases of leading agencies. Each agency will present an exemplary case to demonstrate its concepts. Joachim Brandt of poscomm in Hamburg will use the example of a well-known brand product to show how a brand image can be conveyed across all channels right through to the POS equipped with upgraded media facilities. In a creative discourse also involving agencies and visitors, host Pat Hellberg, President of Kaicon Consulting (Portland Oregon) will explore this topic in depth. He will be happy to take up any examples presented by the audience for discussion. The following "Greet and Meet" will also provide an opportunity for networking.

A special Industrial Inkjet Printing show with the theme "Industrial meets Materials" will demonstrate the large range of different materials that can be printed on nowadays: Whereas PVC sheets and textiles are already regarded as the classics of printable substrates, glass, wood or ceramic materials are frequently still considered exotic, although mature printing and ink technology is meanwhile available for these media as well. Thanks to the Stuttgart material agency raumPROBE who is organising this special show, visitors can get into the excitement of unusual printing media.

Partners involved in the special show are, in addition to raumPROBE, the printing service companies PPS Imaging and Sander Digital Pictures as well as the specialist magazine New Decor published by New Media Magazine Verlag. Efi Electronics for Imaging GmbH, Flachglas Wernberg GmbH, Cruse GmbH and Zimmer Maschinenbau GmbH will also be exhibitors at this show. Among other things, Zimmer Maschinenbau, a supplier of printing equipment, will demonstrate the potential of the new chromojet technology which is already used by the Belgian service provider S-Print: the focus is on printing floor coverings such as trade show carpets.

The organisers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, expect more than 260 exhibitors and 7, 500 visitors from 30 countries at viscom frankfurt 2008.
