Belektro 2008

As Germany's trade fair for electrical engineering for Berlin and the new Federal States belektro focuses on forward-looking topics such as building management, networks, synergies, safety, ease of use and efficiency. More than ever before, interdisciplinary solutions and functional quality products based on innovative energy technologies are in demand.

The multiple tasks of planning and incorporating innovative solutions and systems, improving and modernising existing buildings and apartments represent the challenges of today and the market opportunities of tomorrow.

Fifth LIGHTING DIALOGUE in Berlin

From 15 to 17 October 2008, on all three days of the fair, as part of the LIGHTING DIALOGUE there will be short lectures by representatives of the lighting and electrical engineering industry in Hall 2.2. An attractive hall forum comprising a programme of lectures and an informative special exhibition will be taking place for the fifth time at belektro – the Capital's Trade Fair for Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Lighting.

Hosted by Regina Welk, Chief Editor of the trade publication LICHT, the LIGHTING DIALOGUE is divided into three parts, each under its own heading. On the first day vocational training and advanced training are the main topics. The second day will be devoted to technical innovations and the influences of demographic shifts, climate change, sustainability and energy efficiency. Against the backdrop of modernisation requirements, and with a focus on street lighting in Berlin, the third day will look at energy efficiency and tomorrow's technologies for street lighting. A special exhibition and job exchange will accompany the LIGHTING DIALOGUE.

A competition for the best ideas – lighting to suit every situation

Under the heading of "Lighting Solutions for every Generation's Needs", belektro 2008 marks the first occasion that Messe Berlin and the fair's non-commercial sponsor, the publication LICHT, are inviting students of Lighting Design, Product Design, Lighting Systems, Architecture and Interior Architecture to take part in a competition for the best ideas.

More than 50 students of Product and Lighting Design from Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, FH Potsdam and Hochschule Wismar have registered to take part. Under the supervision of Professors Cornelia Hentschel and Michael Rohde (Wismar), Hartmut Ginnow-Merkert (Berlin), as well as Jörg Hundertpfund (Potsdam) during the summer semester they will be working on innovative concepts under the heading of "Lighting Solutions for every Generation's Needs".

A jury of high-ranking members will judge the designs according to the following criteria: innovativeness, originality, aesthetics, sustainability and feasibility. The prize-giving ceremony will take place during the opening of belektro on 14 October 2008. Examples of the prize-winning designs and other selected designs will be on view in a special display area of the LIGHTING DIALOGUE at belektro.

On 16 October 2008 at belektro, the association Tunnel-Portal e.V. will be holding a seminar which takes a closer look at the new DIN 67524-1 standard on lighting in tunnels. This all-day intensive seminar addresses operators, planners and equipment suppliers.

Four tunnel lighting specialists will be holding short lectures and discussing all the relevant aspects of the new national standard, DIN 67524-1. Attendance is limited to a small number of participants so as to guarantee sufficient time to answer all subsequent questions.

Once again a Row of Workshops, popular with exhibitors and the general public alike, will be set up at this year's belektro. At this interactive platform companies will be presenting products which interested young people can try out for themselves.

Thus exhibitors at belektro 2008 will again have an opportunity to take part in the Row of Workshops and offer young, interested members of the public a close look at their trade. Alongside the Row of Workshops the professional association Elektro Textil und Feinmechanik, representing the electrical engineering, textile and precision engineering industries, will be providing information on the topic of "Safety at the Workplace".

belektro 2008 will be taking place from 15 to 17 October on the southern section of the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. belektro is organised by Messe Berlin. Its non-commercial sponsors are the Elektro-Innung Berlin (Berlin Electricians' Guild) in collaboration with Vattenfall Europe GmbH, Bundesverband des Elektro-Großhandels (VEG), representing the electrical wholesalers, the regional association Landesverband Berlin-Brandenburg, and the Installation Equipment and Systems Association, part of ZVEI. belektro and ehome will be taking place on the same dates. 300 exhibitors from eight countries and 15,224 trade visitors from Germany and abroad attended belektro 2006, underlining its standing as Germany's leading regional trade fair. More than two-thirds of the trade visitors who attended were satisfied with their business results at the fair.
