Interplas Seminars Set Topical Agenda For Show

Interplas 2008, the UK's plastics exhibition, has announced details of its wide ranging, free seminar programme, where leading industry speakers will address the most topical issues facing the industry and look ahead to future trends. Interplas 2008 takes place at the NEC, Birmingham from 30th September to 2nd October.

Organised by The Polymer Society – A Division of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining - in collaboration with The British Plastics Federation (BPF), the scope and content of the programme underlines the show's reputation as the leading industry event.

The seminar programme is also supported by The University of Bradford Polymer CIC/Polymer IRC, The Polymer Innovation Network, MADE: The Materials and Design Exchange, and The Materials Knowledge Transfer Network.

"The collaboration between a number of key polymer-focused organisations will deliver an exciting, informative, interesting and controversial seminar programme which will take place over all three days of the exhibition", comments Exhibition Director Liz Finlay.

The event will be opened by Stuart Patrick, Chairman of the Polymer Society, whose presentation, entitled 'PVC: Sustainability – The Facts and Myths', will introduce the theme of Day One which is Sustainability & the Environment. Other presentations will examine areas such as energy management in plastics processing and ways to improve energy efficiency.

Day Two will focus on 'Design & Innovation with Polymers'. This will combine a series of seminars given by the University of Bradford CIC/Polymer IRC and its industrial partners, which will look at the practical aspects behind the science and engineering of designing with polymers, followed by a series of presentations organised by MADE that deal with aesthetic considerations.

Day Three, organised by the BPF, will cover the history of plastics, an appropriate theme as 2008 is the 75th anniversary of both polyethylene and the Federation. The talks will also give an account of where the industry is now and provide a view into the future, outlining the direction in which the plastics industry is heading.
