GaLaBau 2008

GaLaBau 2008 opens its doors in just under four months. This event every two years is the most important shop window for the landscaping industry, local authority park departments, specifiers and architects. The 18th International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces has two new attractions to offer in Nürnberg from 17-20 September: The PLAYGROUND segment and the German Golf Course Conference now provide key sectors of the landscaping industry with their own venue. There are good signs that this year's exhibition will be another success. To make sure visiting the exhibition is also a complete success, NürnbergMesse offers its new online platform ask-GaLaBau – an optimized tool for preparing to visit the event – in July.

"Based on present development, we will beat the size of the last GaLaBau. The space used at the last event is already allocated and 896* exhibitors are firmly registered, " says a delighted Walter Hufnagel, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse. "Almost all the big and well-known companies are represented." At the last GaLaBau two years ago, over 900 exhibitors and 53,000 trade visitors met to exchange information on the latest products and services for design, construction and maintenance.

GaLaBau is not only a comprehensive product show, but also always takes up current developments and trends. The ELCA International Award for Ecological Construction & Landscaping will be presented again in 2008. ELCA** and BGL***, the honorary sponsor of GaLaBau, present this international award to jointly promote interdisciplinary cooperation between developers, landscape architects and landscape gardeners. The award is presented to a project that is an outstanding practical example of green design for buildings and outdoor facilities.

The Landscape Gardener Cup is also a permanent feature of the exhibition. The best trainee landscape gardeners from the states compete again this year in this nationwide competition to prove their professional skills and determine the "German Champion Team". The winning team will take part in the World Championship in Calgary (Canada) in 2009. The competition now takes place in hall 2.

The extensive supporting programme at "GaLaBau 2008" also offers interested visitors a wealth of events on green construction. The spectrum of conferences deals with many topics ranging from "swimming ponds" to questions of "planning the use of plants in gardens". This year's event also focuses on "Gardens for Generations", and the popular GaLaBau Excursion takes place again on the Saturday of the exhibition. An international conference on "Vegetation Techniques in Landscaping" takes place the day before the exhibition, when six speakers tackle the relevant topics from grass diseases to irrigation management.

GaLaBau's new online platform ask-GaLaBau is designed to optimize the supply of information about the green industry. Starting in July 2008, NürnbergMesse makes preparing for and following up the exhibition easier with this tailor-made service for visitors, exhibitors and journalists. ask-GaLaBau offers extensive search functions, easy contact facilities, product comparisons and detailed information about the exhibitors at GaLaBau.

Researching with ask-GaLaBau provides far more than just basic information. All the companies entered are profiled in extensive and clearly laid out online presentations. The user can contact the relevant exhibitors via ask-GaLaBau straight away and before the exhibition, as the platform includes all the relevant contact details. The online hall floor plan and the stand numbers marked on each floor plan are linked to the companies' entries on the ask platform.

The GaLaBau exhibition offers the world's most comprehensive range of products for the design, construction and maintenance of urban, green and open spaces. Some fifty per cent of the exhibitors come from the core segment of construction machinery and equipment and another quarter of them cover materials and components, plants, supply and disposal and environmental protection. The remaining 25 per cent cover special products like playground equipment, urban furnishings and the segment of golf course construction and maintenance. The spacious demonstration areas are highly popular among both exhibitors and visitors.

This year, the demonstrations of maintenance machinery and equipment are presented on the "maintenance demonstration area" at SilberseePark. The "earth-moving demonstration area" is located on the outdoor site in front of hall 4A. Visitors will also find a concentrated and even more attractive range of products from the playground equipment industry as part of the new PLAYGROUND segment in hall 1 in September. A special show with examples of plans or projects for "Multi-generation Playgrounds" is also being prepared in cooperation with the Bundesverband der Spielplatzgeräte- und Freizeitanlagen-Hersteller (BSFH) and the trade magazine Playground@Landscape.

Another new feature at GaLaBau 2008 is the German Golf Course Conference: This is the meeting-place for exhibitors and visitors from the field of golf course construction, management and maintenance. The heart of this event is the "Golf Village", where the industry meets in hall 4A of the exhibition. The first "Golf Congress 2008" also takes place as part of the German Golf Course Conference. The congress contents are organized by the German golf associations (BVGA, DGV, GMVD and PGA of Germany****). The "Business Golf Cup" tournament, which is also jointly organized for the first time as a cooperation between BVGA and GMVD, takes place the day before the exhibition.
