Leipzig Book Fair-2008

Interest in the Leipzig Book Fair is greater than ever. More than 2,300 exhibitors are expected in Leipzig for the book and media industry's springtime event. The increases are accounted for primarily by small and independent publishing companies, particularly of fiction and non-fiction, but also from the children's and teenage literature sector. The education focus is seen as particularly important by the Leipzig Fair. The Book Fair devotes attention to all aspects of education and training, with many professional events, exhibitions and presentations.

During the Leipzig Book Fair, a one-day conference will be held in the Congress Center Leipzig on Thursday, 13 March 2008, headlined "Support children earlier – more effective investment in education". 250 education and social policy decision-makers from national and regional government are expected, as well as from local authorities, associations, business and the academic world.

Cooperation also continues with the Didacta Verband e.V. which will be holding its childcare symposium for the second time in 2008. In partnership with the Leipzig Book Fair, the symposium is on the Friday, 14 March 2008, at the Congress Center Leipzig. The mainly practical topics are of particular interest to nursery school educators and primary school teachers. At the last Book Fair, around 600 people attended the symposium "Education from the very beginning!".

The programme and exhibits in the children's and teen books, comics and manga sections are particularly important again at the Leipzig Book Fair 2008 with their direct and specific appeal to young readers.

As in the past, partner for the prize is the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LCB) to which publishing companies can send their submissions up until 30 November. Each exhibiting publisher can submit up to three books per category. There were 700 submissions in 2007. The nominations will be announced at the beginning of February 2008.
