China Europa

China Europa will be held from 11 to 13 December 2007 in Le Havre, bringing together 600 European and Chinese entrepreneurs from 5 targeted industrial sectors. The goal of the organisers: to boost economic exchanges between European and Chinese companies by programming over 5,000 business appointments. Recognising its exemplarity as a support mechanism for European companies wishing to tackle a market as complex as China, China Europa has received the backing of the European Research Commission and the European Trade Commission.

Mr Peter Mandelson, European Trade Commissioner, will be in Le Havre on 11 December to inaugurate the second China Europa gathering with Mrs Christine Lagarde, French Minister for the Economy, Finance and Employment and Mr Bo Xilai, Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese market continues to attract European companies as never before. Some countries, notably those in Eastern Europe and the most recent members of the European Union, see in the China Europa convention an opportunity to promote the know-how of their companies, highlight their international industrial hubs and showcase their country's assets with the aim of attracting Chinese investments.

Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia and Poland enter the convention as partners this year. Official delegations from these countries will be present in Le Havre, accompanied by local entrepreneurs, seeking to make contacts with the fifteen delegations of Chinese buyers attending. The visit of Mr Strods, Latvia's Minister for Economics, is announced in this context.

This year, European economic expansion bodies will also be attending the business meetings. The Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation has already confirmed its participation, along with French regional bodies such as Normandie Développement, Provence Promotion and Champagne-Ardenne Développement. Discussions are under way with similar bodies in Belgium, Great Britain and Spain.

They have many objectives for their participation, including promoting their regions as conducive to Chinese and European investments, prospecting sites for projects, making offers of land and buildings, depending on the nature of their local economic fabric and their geographic location.

The 5 key sectors of the convention in 2007 are Aerospace & Transportation Systems: aeronautics, space, maritime, rail, automotive, etc. Environment & Sustainable Development: renewable energies, waste management and recycling, air and water processing, etc. Industrial Cooperation: electronics, plastics, composite materials, metalworking, etc. Trade & Logistics: import/export, storage, multimodal transport, transit, etc. Business in: territorial promotion, finance, insurance, consulting, etc.
