Maderalia 2007 Presents A Revolutionary Access-friendly Kitchen

Maderalia will present a revolutionary access-friendly kitchen which will help make all domestic tasks easy for wheelchair users. Professionals who visit both the Fimma and Maderalia fairs between 7 and 10 November at Feria Valencia will be able to see for themselves the possibilities and advantages that this adapted kitchen version offers. Unlike conventional kitchens, this adapted kitchen meets the fundamental need to have the area below the working tops free of cupboards. The height of the working tops will be lower than the standard measurements.

The project has been developed by the R&D&I department at the kitchen firm Cuidec, and thanks to the collaboration of Carlos Gausax, a student at the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, who presented it as his end-of-career project.

According to Ferreres, the idea arose through the awareness of and the solidarity with groups of people with reduced motor functions, the elderly and wheelchair users, whose restrictions do not have to prevent them from doing certain tasks in their own homes.

The design came about after undertaking an ergonomic study which marked these users´ needs. From this study, all the kitchen elements and work areas were distributed and arranged. The objective is to facilitate the day-to-day routine of these social groups by specifically overcoming the obstacles they face in their own homes as their limited mobility should not prevent them from doing such routine tasks like cooking.
