International Boat Show of Barcelona

Growth in exhibitor numbers is the dominant note of the next International Boat Show of Barcelona, which will be held from the 3rd to the 11th of November in the Gran Via exhibition centre and in Port Vell. This major nautical event will feature 686 companies and 2,100 boats, with the first time appearance of super yachts. This year's show will have a total net space of 115,000 m2 and exhibit more boats than ever in the Gran Via exhibition centre and in Port Vell, where the On-Water Show will feature large boats.

The number of exhibitors will be 11% higher than the previous year. 533 of the 686 direct exhibitors are national and 153 from abroad. The Show will cover all nautical segments, from shipbuilders, sail and motor boats, nautical schools, sports marinas, electronics and engines, to inflatable boats, paints, sails, trailers, fishing articles, jet skis and large boats.

In the Gran Via exhibition, the Show will occupy 75,000 m2 of stands space in pavilions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 and outdoor areas. The growth of the Show and the incorporation of pavilion 1 have resulted in a relocation of certain sectors and stands. The net space in Port Vell will amount to 40,000 m2.

The Port Vell On-Water Show will showcase around 225 large boats in the Espanya and Barcelona docks. A new feature this year will be the super yachts - some over 40 metres long – an emerging segment and new addition to the Boat Show. These boats will be situated at the end of the Barcelona dock, close to the World Trade Centre, next to the sail boats. The Espanya dock will provide the setting for large motor boats.

The Port Vell exhibition will also feature Open 60 boats, in the Moll de la Fusta, which will compete in the Barcelona World Race, a 25,000-mile two-handed, non-stop round the world yacht race. The start of the race will coincide with the close of the Boat Show.

In the Gran Via exhibition centre, the Show will have five large activity areas. The announcement of regattas and boat competitions together with the presentation of books and trophies will take place in the Sea Space; light sailing and nautical sports will concentrate their programme and demonstrations in the swimming pool which will be installed in the Fun Beach Area.

Schools, naval engineering firms and yacht design centres with R&D&I projects will be in the Innovative Space; sea fishing enthusiasts will have their meeting point in the Fishing Space, where various casting and capture simulators will be installed; and lastly, the organisations which work on the recovery of maritime and fluvial heritage will be housed in the Traditional Marina Space, where goletas (schooners), pailebotes (small schooners with no topsail), dornas (dories) and jábegas (fishing boats) will also be exhibited.
