Expopharm

The first impression is always the most important, even for the service in the pharmacy. What the customer first sees when he steps into the pharmacy is not the professional ability of the pharmacist, but what is called the display of goods. First introduced in US pharmacies in the 1950s, self-service is today gaining ever greater significance. Display of goods will be an important topic at EXPOPHARM 2007 in Dusseldorf from September 27 to 30.

Clear signals to the customers are tied to the preparation of the self-service. A clear orientation to the shelving systems of the discount trade is tied to good prices, while a well-kept, nicely ordered shelves underline the advantage of competent advice in the pharmacy. Show window preparation, decoration in the store area, and the presentation of informational material also play a great role. In particular, store designers place great value on the transition from free choice to choosing by seeing. If the display of goods is to profit from the image of a professionally competent medication adviser behind the counter, as coherent a transition as possible must be set up.

Choice by sight has a signal effect when it is a question of the quality of what is offered. In fact, self-service, in times of health policy cutbacks, also conceals reserve strength for increasing sales. If there is success in transferring the reputation of the pharmacy and the related positive expectations of the customers to this display of goods, significant revenue potential lies in self-service. Most experts, on the other hand, advise against having "a visual display of what is cheap" in the reception area. The pharmacy would thereby give itself over to the original territory of the discounter and would begin a war that in the end would recognize only losers.

Around 500 exhibitors and 25, 000 professionals will use EXPOPHARM 2007 as an opportunity to be informed about and exchange opinions about the redesign of the sales area. Europe's leading trade fair for the medicine and pharmaceutical market will be hosted in Dusseldorf from September 27 to 30. In parallel, the German Pharmacist Congress will take place from September 27 to 29. Like EXPOPHARM, the most important professional policy meeting of the year will be opened on September 27 in Congress Centre South (CCD South). A shuttle service will be available for transportation to the main meeting, which will take place in CCD East.
