Sonimagfoto Trade Fair

Sonimagfoto will showcase all the possibilities of imaging in its next show, from the 3rd to the 7th of October in halls 1 and 8 of Fira de Barcelona's Montjuïc exhibition centre. The show will feature exhibits and technology presented by almost 400 brands, represented at 170 stands. The organisers expect an audience of 110, 000 visitors. There will also be various educational activities and over 20 photography exhibitions. Sonimagfoto will provide the setting for the AFP Lux Awards, the most important professional photography awards in Spain and the photo/OSCAR awards given by the magazine foto/VENTAS.

Exhibits, spread over 14, 000 m2 of stands space, will be divided into five major areas: consumer imaging –photographic and video cameras, accessories and albums for hobbyists–; professional imaging –professional cameras and digital backs; studio equipment and lighting systems; laboratory equipment and machinery; kiosks; mini-labs; equipment for making digital photo albums; photofinishing and photomontage; albums–; digital printing –equipment for domestic and professional medium and large format digital printing on different surfaces–; and other –computer and multimedia support equipment; schools and associations.

40% of companies are first-time exhibitors at Sonimagfoto, from spheres such as consumer electronics, information technology, mobile telephony and graphic arts, among other sectors, which operate in the digital imaging market. Another debut will be the Blue-Ray Club which groups manufacturers of hardware and software for this new format of optical disc for video and data which was developed to replace the DVD. The show has also received confirmation of direct exhibitors from Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Portugal, South Korea and China.

With over 20 exhibitions, Sonimagfoto will become one of the country's best photography galleries. The Visual Art Gallery, sponsored by Casio Exilim You Tube, will feature four exhibitions, never seen before in Spain: "This Transition 1976-1981" by the Argentinean photojournalist Carlos Bosch; "Mira el mundo" (Look at the World) by various authors for Reuters; "Uzbekistan. Tower of Silence", by Aitor Lara; and the multi-disciplinary project "Confitura de moniato" (Sweet Potato Jam), directed by Carles Poy, with work by Miralda, Pep Durán, Nelson Garrido and Ernesto Salmerón.

The show will host the Annual Congress of the Spanish Federation of Photography and Imaging Professionals (FEPFI); the Congress of the FOTOCAT Group, which represents social photographers from the four Catalan provinces; the Professional Photographers Association (AFP) Session dedicated to contracting, the first Specialised Distribution Workshop, organised by the magazine Electro Imagen, the graphispag_digital, workshop on colour management and the AIDO Workshop on standards from capture to reproduction of images. All of these events will be held in the Montjuïc Congress Centre.
