International Exhibition for the Sweet & Confectionery - Sweets China

The third Sweets China – powered by ISM – posted a major increase in visitor turnout. Almost 10, 000 trade visitors came to the Shanghai New Exhibition Center to inspect the wide range of products displayed by 193 exhibitors from 19 countries. The exhibiting companies were very pleased with the results of the fair. They particularly noted the visitors' considerable expertise. About 21 percent of the trade visitors came from abroad, with buyers registered from a total of 88 countries, including China. The next Sweets China will take place in Shanghai from 5th to 7th September 2007.

The good result underscores Sweets China's unique standing as the central trade and information platform for China's confectionery industry. Sweets China is a spin-off of the renowned International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) in Cologne. Like the Cologne event, Sweets China focuses solely on confectionery and snack items that are meant for retail sale.

Large numbers of visitors were drawn to the VIP Procurement Center, which was set up in cooperation with leading trading companies from throughout Asia. Producers and importers had the opportunity to come into direct contact with buyers here.

As part of the well-attended, trade-specific supporting programme of Sweets China, Stephan Tromp, Deputy Secretary General of the German Retail Association (HDE), made a presentation about the food safety standards for the German and French food trade, which is known as the International Food Standard, or IFS for short.

The relocation of Sweets China into the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center (SNIEC) enabled the development of the event to progress further. The venue's modern infrastructure and pillar-free halls offered the exhibitors an excellent setting for showcasing their companies and products.

This year, Sweets China took place alongside two other food fairs for the first time. The inaugural World of Food China and International FoodTec China/Interfood made their debuts parallel to Sweets China at the SNIEC. As a 3 satellite of the world's leading food fair Anuga, World of Food China presents a wide range of food and beverages.

International FoodTec China/Interfood, on the other hand, follows the example of Anuga FoodTec in Cologne and concentrates on food technology for the growing segment of production and packaging processes in China. Numerous synergy effects are created for the three fairs, as they cover the entire value chain from the raw ingredients and processing to the finished product.
