PulPaper Exhibition in Helsinki

The Finland-based AC drives manufacturer Vacon will present its complete product portfolio at the PulPaper exhibition in Helsinki on 5-7 June, 2007. Vacon air- and liquid-cooled AC drives and common DC bus componentsare suited for the various needs of the pulp and paper segment. One of the advanced features of the Common DC bus components is the Vacon-patented methodology of using parallel Active Front-End (AFE) units.

Vacon AC drives are available in the power range of 0.25 kW - 5 MW. Up to 2 MW, units are available as air- or liquid-cooled versions; units above 2 MW are liquid-cooled. For system drives, Vacon has a complete range of products for the common DC bus systems, consisting of rectifiers and inverters. These modules can be used to configure a Common DC bus system according to process and application requirements. The Common DC bus product family is based on the benefits of the Vacon NXP, e.g. high I/O configurability and a wide range of communication alternatives. Common DC bus components are used for sectional drives in the pulp and paper, metals and many other industries.

The Vacon-patented method of synchronizing parallel inverter (Active Front-End) units minimizes the circulating current between the units. Synchronization is based on the correlation between the measured values and internal modulator.

Also a safe disable function, integrated in the Vacon NXP drives, will be presented at the exhibition. Certified according to EN-954-1, category 3, the safe disable function can be used to ensure that the drive will not start e.g. during maintenance or servicing of the machine. As such, it can be used to replace the conventional safety switch during mechanical maintenance. It cannot, however, be used for electrical maintenance. This function provides a simplified design phase, reduced costs and increased user safety.
