Alimentaria Lisboa - Portuguese Food Market

The Alimentaria Lisboa show is set to take place May 27-30, 2007, an exceptional international rendez-vous with the food industry in which over 1, 400 companies from 40 different countries will take part, distributed among eight theme-based halls to make visiting easy for the close to 36, 000 visitors that will attend the show.

Right from the very start, Alimentaria Lisboa has grown with the intention of becoming a strategic business platform for European countries like Italy, Spain, Greece and Germany, among others, who hold commercial interests in Portuguese-speaking regions or nations in America or Africa, such as Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde.

Covering some 23, 000 net square metres of exhibition space, the food exhibits are to be arranged according to sector among eight halls: Multiproducto – general large-scale consumption products; Mundidoce – baked goods, patisserie, biscuits and sweets; Congexpo – frozen and chilled products; Intercarne – meat and processed meat products; Expobebidas – wines, spirits, beers, ciders and alcohol-free beverages; Tecnoalimentaria – technologies, ingredients and additives for food production processes; Vegefruta – fresh fruit and vegetables; and Deliexpo – delicatessen and regional products.

The privileged position that the show enjoys as a food industry sales bridge between Portuguese-speaking countries is largely due to its focus on quality and innovation, as well as to the ideal nature of the Portugese market in terms of its openness and the virtual lack of entry barriers for any type of foreign-made product. Quick response capacity is yet another factor which has favoured the event's success in the country.

At the present time, Alimentaria Lisboa boasts a satisfaction rate of 7 out of every 10 exhibitors attending the trade fair, in addition to virtually all visitors, according to the latest data released by the consulting firm Tziranda.

Alimentaria Lisboa is fortunate to have President Luis Vieira e Silva at its helm, who is also president of the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED), a situation that has led the relationship between the show itself and the Portuguese distribution industry to grow even stronger. Plus, it also features directors Fαtima Vilamaior and Alberto Alonso, from the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL) and Alimentaria Exhibitions, respectively.

The highly professional nature of the trade fair comes as a result of the development of support infrastructure like the Business Center and the promotion of business initiatives such as the show's Business Meetings or innovative offerings like the Intelligent Shop, a live presentation of the latest technologies within the point-of-sale framework, with automated pay cash registers, frequency-controlled localizers, customer check-out, and so on.
