International Postage Stamps Trade Fair With Phone Cards

The significant number of foreign exhibitors has over the years become a defining characteristic of this specialized event in Essen, which has been going strong since 1976 and is therefore the oldest specialized exhibition of its kind in the world. From May 3 to May 5, 2007, over 150 specialized dealers, auction houses, publishers and postal administrations will be taking part. A third of the dealers and auction houses will be from outside Germany. This time, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and the U.K. will have especially strong representation, but there will also be several firms coming from Belgium, Italy, Austria and Sweden.

Further contributing to the event's international spirit will be fifty foreign postal administrations or their agents. These include not only European countries, but also some far-flung overseas entities. The French postal service is returning with a sales and information counter after a ten-year absence. Another notable European attendee will be the Spanish postal service. Even the territory of Kosovo, still striving for greater independence, will be sending its postal administration. In addition, 11 stamp-issuing entities forming the SEPAC (Small European Postal Administrations Cooperation) will be unveiling their planned October 1 joint release on the theme of natural beauty.

Occupying a total area of 420 sq. m., Deutsche Post AG will be the Fair's largest exhibitor, and will be issuing four new commemoratives. To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, the official Fair cover will bear the stamp issued for this occasion on March 1 along with a fitting commemorative cancellation. Two additional special cancellations will honor the second edition of the European Championship for Thematic Philately and the IBRA 2009 in Essen, the first details of which have just been released.

A permanent feature of the Fair will again be the Philatelic Round Table with its discussion forums, lectures and demonstrations. The Philatelic Center will again be the site of group functions, and certified public appraisers will again be offering information and advice. Twenty-one study and research groups will be represented by an information counter.

Visitors can look forward to not only to wide-ranging attractions, but also to another year of reduced admission prices. One-day passes will start at 5 Euros. Female guests and youths up to the age of 21 will be admitted free.
