Perth's Inaugural Gardening Australia Expo

Water conservation and sustainability of our gardens are top of the agenda for many of the speakers and exhibitors at Perth's inaugural Gardening Australia Expo, being held at Perry Lakes, Floreat, April 12-15. Perth is experiencing its driest year since rainfall records commenced in 1876. This has impacted on stream flows and hence the rate of dam refill. Parts of the State's south west and mid west have also been severely impacted by our drying climate. The challenge for today's gardeners is to maintain beautiful and productive gardens while observing water restrictions.

Sixty presentations across four stage areas over the four days of the expo will show visitors to the Gardening Australia Expo how even small, easy-to-achieve changes to gardening practices can make a big difference in protecting your natural surroundings and keeping your garden healthy and productive.

A visit to the Gardening Australia Theatre is a must for every keen gardener's agenda. You'll see ABC TV's Gardening Australia program come to life as presenters Peter Cundall, Josh Byrne, Sophie Thomson and Angus Stewart give informative presentations and demonstrations on a range of topics such as: 'Water-wise Plants', Growing your own Food', 'What's New with Native Plants' and 'Mediterranean Gardening'. You'll also learn about permaculture and organic gardening, pest and disease management, composting, mulching and many useful tips and techniques.

Sponsored by Water Corporation, the Ask it/Solve It stage is an informal, intimate panel format that also features ABC TV's Gardening Australia presenters and Gardening Australia magazine editor, Jennifer Stackhouse, talking about specific plant care. They will also answer questions from the audience on a range of gardening and environmental topics.

Be it a balcony, courtyard or backyard, gardeners are eager to adapt new styles of planting and landscaping to meet changing lifestyle needs and to cope with harsh climatic conditions. The Gardening Australia Expo provides plenty of ideas and tips to assist with this.

ABC TV's Gardening Australia program has been at the forefront of gardening television for almost 18 years. The presenters possess an enormous amount of practical, environmentally sound, down-to-earth information and ideas that they'll readily pass on to you at the expo.
