External Works - The Exhibitioin

A cutting edge play area named "Playscape", designed and built by Groundwork UK and Visible Changes, will be a key attraction for the forthcoming External Works (EWx) 2007 Event, which will take place from 17th to 19th April at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Playscape at EWx 2007 will be the UK's ever indoor exhibition play space. Responding to the health, social and environmental needs of today's children, the concept eschews traditional swings and roundabouts in favour of a more holistic approach to play.

Using mixed level spaces and a combination of textures and sounds, such as water, bridges, boulders, and willow archways, Playscape creates an exciting setting designed to challenge and inspire its users, an approach which the Groundwork design team hopes that other designers, local authorities and contractors will adopt and consider.

Incorporating nature and technology in the Playscape design, Groundwork UK and Visible Changes are using EWx 2007 to showcase how play spaces can provide children with a place to be creative, active and experience risk, whilst also offering opportunities for three generations of the family to play together.

EWx 2007 draws on the support of a number of leading industry organisations including CABE, the Landscape Institute (LI), the Association of Play Industries (API) and the Sports and Play Construction Association (SAPCA). The event will feature a series of high profile seminars on future trends in the development of public space, as well as providing exhibitors and visitors with the opportunity to showcase and view the latest designs from suppliers such as Lappset, Timberplay, Proludic and Handmade Places.
