11th Ligna+Hannover Tradeshow

"The world of wood." That's the new lead theme for the 11th LIGNA+ HANNOVER tradeshow, which runs in Hannover from 14 to 18 May 2007. The event is on target to attracting 1, 800 exhibitors from over 40 nations. And with orders for an impressive 130, 000 square meters of net display space. Ever true to its reputation as the No. 1 international shop window for the forestry and wood industries, LIGNA+ HANNOVER will this year again feature the latest innovations and trends in woodworking machinery, forestry technology, wood-based materials and construction from around the globe.

The show spans the entire wood production and supply chain, from the tree in the ground to the packaged end-product. There will be a strong focus on surface finishing technology, wood-based construction and energy. Manufacturers of wood processing machinery will be showcasing the latest developments for the forestry and forestry technology sectors, sawmill technology, solid wood working, wood-based materials and veneer production, the woodworking trades and furniture industry.

In the "Handwerk, Holz & mehr" display area, the German Association of Carpentry and Joinery (BHKH) will be demonstrating the broad range of services on offer from its members at an impressive showcase themed "Carpenters & Cabinetmakers Have More to Offer!" The BHKH will be running presentations on themes such as barrier-free living for the aged and disabled, healthy living environments, and modernization and renovation.

The traditional highlight at the BHKH pavilion is the exhibition of award winning journeyman creations from Germany's "Form & Function" competition. The nationwide winner will be selected by a jury of experts on the last day of the fair. New in 2007 is the "best-liked" award which gives LIGNA+ visitors the chance to choose their favorites. Whether they are wardrobes, shelving units, desks or chests of drawers - all are outstanding examples of the finest in form and function in wood from the fields of joinery and cabinetmaking.

Surface finishing technology will feature strongly at LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007 in the form of the "Wooden Surface Solutions" project, a joint initiative between Deutsche Messe and the German Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers' Association within the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). The organizers are staging the project in close cooperation with exhibitors and the Rosenheim University for Applied Studies (FH Rosenheim). The initiative will see around 300 exhibitors showcasing their latest technical innovations at various locations around the exhibition venue. To help visitors find their way around, there will be information centers dotted around the venue plus a project booklet profiling each of the "Wooden Surface Solutions" exhibitors.

Wood is undergoing an upsurge in popularity as a fuel source as prices for fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas spiral out of control. Which is why the entire wood energy production and supply chain will be on show on the open-air site and under the EXPO canopy at LIGNA+ HANNOVER 2007. The demonstrations will cover the entire spectrum, from wood pellet, wood chip and firewood production, to the latest in eco-friendly, cost-effective wood burning technology. Under the motto "From Tree to Fuel, " a range of companies and organizations will be demonstrating a range of technical and logistical processes for transforming solid wood into a fully-finished, renewable fuel.
