Itu Telecom World 2006

ITU will host the 10th international Telecommunication Development Symposium (TDS-06) in Hong Kong, China, 5-7 December 2006 as part of Itu Telecom World 2006. Information and communication technology (ICT) leaders, including up to 180 Fellows from 90 least developed and low-income ITU Member States, will discuss how ICT can help bridge the digital divide and drive growth in their countries.

As well as being a global showcase for the latest technological trends and innovations, Telecom World is also driven by ITU's goal of making communications accessible and affordable to anyone, anytime and anywhere. The Telecommunication Development Symposium plays a central role in Telecom World's goal to connect the unconnected and to extend the benefits of ICT to all the world's inhabitants and, specifically, to least developed countries.

Participants in the three-day symposium will discuss how the use of advanced fixed and wireless technologies can narrow the digital divide, transforming developing countries and helping them compete in the global marketplace. The symposium, featuring keynote addresses and panel discussions with leading authorities on communications and technology from government and industry, will be held at the venue of the Itu Telecom World 2006 exhibition at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong.
