Toshiba Storage Device Division

As the industry celebrates the 50th anniversary of the hard disk drive (HDD) at DISKCON USA 2006 on Sept. 13-14, Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD), the industry in mobile hard disk drive (HDD) technology, will showcase its vision for the HDD industry's next 50 years and the technology's impact on the proliferation of digital information and entertainment devices.

Toshiba will present in three sessions at DISKCON USA, the premier HDD industry event held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. Scott Maccabe, vice president and general manager, will join other top executives for a retrospective and future look at the HDD industry in the "Company Views of Our Early Years and Strategic Directions for the Future".

Toshiba has a long history of technology leadership in the HDD industry. The company was the first HDD manufacturer to commercialize perpendicular magnetic recording, a technology in development by the HDD industry for more than 20 years, and has deployed that technology on its second-generation product family to achieve world-leading areal density at 178.8 gigabits per square inch and the industry's first 100GB(1)-per-platter mobile HDD. In addition, Toshiba introduced the world's smallest HDD, according to the Guinness World Records book, at 0.85-inches and is the current market leader in mobile HDD shipments, according to research firm IDC.
