oneM2M appoints new Marcom Chair and Vice-Chair, as work on Release 4 specifications ramps up

The two new appointments come as oneM2M expands its specifications to support a range of industry domains, including smart cities and Industry 4.0

Shanghai, China, 9 July 2019: oneM2M, the global standards body for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that it has appointed a new Chair and a Regional Vice-Chair of Asia for its Marketing and Communications (Marcom) Committee, as it continues to expand its presence in global IoT standardisation.

Nadja Rachow, Communication Director at ETSI, will take on the position of Chair of oneM2M’s Marcom Committee. She brings 20 years of experience within prominent international groups across the automotive, energy, transport and logistics industries. This includes her most recent role prior to joining ETSI, as Communication Director at Deutsche Bahn, in France.

With a proven track record in successfully overseeing global businesses’ communication strategies, Nadja Rachow will lead oneM2M’s marketing and communication efforts as it continues to drive standardisation in the IoT ecosystem. As part of this, she will work closely with oneM2M’s Technical Plenary to help develop a strategy for its Release 4 specifications, which aims to enhance interworking of IoT applications within various industry sectors beyond telecoms.

“I am thrilled to be taking on the position of Marcom Chair at an incredibly exciting time within oneM2M, as work on Release 4 begins to ramp up, ” said Nadja. “As more IoT applications and devices emerge on the market, it is critical that the industry understands the importance of standards in enabling a harmonious, thriving global-scale IoT ecosystem – and I look forward to driving this initiative forward.”

Working alongside Nadja, Peter Kim, Chief Researcher at TTA, has taken on the role of Regional Vice-Chair of Asia for the oneM2M Marcom Committee. Peter has been heavily involved since the formation of oneM2M in 2012. As the person in charge of operating and organising oneM2M in Korea, he has been actively promoting oneM2M and helping to recruit numerous Korean companies to join and participate in the partnership project.

He has continuously driven oneM2M’s presence in Korea, including attending industry exhibitions such as IoT Week Korea, organising oneM2M workshops, seminars and tutorial programs. Peter has also written numerous papers on oneM2M for The Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences Conference for the past few years, perfectly positioning him to lead oneM2M’s activities in Asia.

“As the IoT continues to gain pace in Asia and beyond, the need for an interoperable IoT framework is increasing with this, ” said Peter. “In South Korea, we have already seen several multi-vendor oneM2M roll-outs across various smart cities, providing cities with the freedom to choose solutions which fit their own requirements and won’t leave them locked in with insufficient, out-dated equipment further down the line. I look forward to continuing to drive awareness of the benefits of oneM2M as I embark on my new role as Regional Vice-Chair.”

oneM2M’s release 4 is set to be published in Q4 of 2020 and will further build on the interworking capabilities outlined in Release 3 to support interworking between a range of sectors, including smart cities and Industry 4.0.
