UKCloud unveils new solutions for making transformation happen across UK public sector

UKCloud invests in creating unique multi-cloud solutions hosted within the Crown Campus that make it easier for public sector organisations to accelerate their digital transformation.

London – 19th September 2018 – UKCloud, the leading cloud platform for the UK public sector, today announced refreshed solutions that re-affirm the company’s exclusive commitment to digital transformation for the UK GovTech community.

Digital Transformation has become commonplace across UK public sector as a result of government policies such as Cloud First, as well as the Government Transformation Strategy. Over the last few years, the UKCloud platform has enabled hundreds of digital projects to deliver genuine benefits – saving public sector billions of pounds whilst vastly improving the public services delivered to citizens and businesses.

These successes have largely come from new services which have adopted modern IT approaches. But the scale of traditional and legacy IT within the public sector far exceeds these new systems and the UK Government Digital Service (https://gdstechnology.blog.gov.uk/2018/05/24/understanding-legacy-technology-in-government/) recognises the need for strategies and solutions that tackle these larger challenges. By doing so, even greater cost savings and service improvements can be achieved.

As a result of an extensive strategic review focused on the IT challenges facing its customers and partners, UKCloud is evolving to help the UK GovTech community rise to these challenges by providing more choice, more neutrality and more support. UKCloud enables public sector organisations of all sizes to accelerate their digital transformation by addressing their diverse IT needs, harnessing their existing skills and avoiding lock-in to proprietary public cloud platforms.

“UKCloud is built on a passion to deliver better value IT for UK taxpayers” says Simon Hansford, UKCloud CEO. “The first wave of citizen facing digital services has ensured that technologies such as cloud, mobile and digital are much better accepted. But our public sector customers tell us this is just the tip of the iceberg; that cloud has not yet disrupted the bulk of their IT locked into on-premises facilities or long term outsource agreements. They recognise the benefits of modernising these traditional systems will far exceed the benefits seen to date. But they also recognise that what worked for the first wave of their transformation, won’t be enough for the next wave.”

UKCloud continues to invest in a multi-cloud platform that brings together Azure, OpenStack, Oracle and VMware environments so that customers can use the right cloud for every workload. Multi-Cloud enables modern applications to harness dynamic cloud native technologies such as Azure and Kubernetes, whilst also accelerating the modernisation of traditional applications that are typically built for VMware and Oracle environments so that they come together on the same platform, within the same sovereign data centres. The diversity of multiple cloud technologies enables customers to avoid lock-in, harness their existing capabilities and enable greater agility to deal with uncertainty.

UKCloud is also the prominent provider within the government’s recently announced Crown Campus. This provides public sector organisations with the safety of high security, UK-based data centres and the flexibility of being able to use different cloud providers without having to worry about moving data and systems between third party data centres. It means public sector organisations retain more control and ability to mix non-cloud, private cloud and public cloud services.

Peter Counter, CIO of Genomics England commented, “The Crown Campus gives us the agility we need to support our ever-changing business requirements. Assurance, cost, capacity, neutrality and capex are all levers available to us by being able to adjust our mix of UKCloud’s multi-cloud platform and flexible co-location options available in Crown Hosting”.

Additionally, UKCloud has continued to build on its award-winning customer services to more directly help public sector organisations at all stages of their journey; from initial discovery and migration through to live support and on-going cost optimisation. Every public sector customer, large or small, benefits from UKCloud’s expertise at no extra cost which is a key investment in removing inhibitors to digital transformation.

“Having listened to our customers and partners, we better understand the real challenges that will affect their continued transformation” continued Hansford. “We understand the concerns they have around retaining control, skills and flexibility. That’s why UKCloud has invested further in multi-cloud, the Crown Campus and award-winning customer service; to provide a UK GovTech optimised alternative to the generic global public cloud platforms.”
