3T MongoChef rebrands to become Studio 3T

3T MongoChef is now Studio 3T
Best-selling MongoDB tool renamed as capabilities and market grow rapidly

BERLIN, GERMANY – FEBRUARY 09, 2017 – 3T Software Labs (http://studio3t.com/), makers of the best-selling MongoChef IDE for working with MongoDB databases, this week relaunched MongoChef under its new name: Studio 3T.

3T Software Labs (named after the three founders Thomas Zahn, Tomasz Naumowicz and Graham Thomson) has been developing the MongoChef IDE since 2013, transforming it from an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) into today’s powerful and secure development environment. It is by a wide margin the most popular commercial IDE for working with MongoDB and is used by over 100, 000 developers and DBAs globally who work with the NoSQL database. This has been driven by its powerful features, ease of use and the tremendous growth in the NoSQL market, with trends such as Big Data increasing adoption of the technology across more and more enterprises.

“The old name didn’t do our development environment justice, ” says 3T co-founder Tomasz Naumowicz. “At first we set out, in lean start-up style, to make a quick and dirty GUI. But over three years we have developed it into something much more useful than just a GUI. With the latest version (v4.5) you can do a tonne of sophisticated things with it, like aggregation query building, data-in-place editing, schema exploration and documentation, data comparison and synchronisation and plenty more, including SQL Export. It certainly feels like a studio, with all the capabilities, including security authentication with LDAP and Kerberos, that increasingly sophisticated users expect.”

3T’s Dr. Graham Thomson highlights the other reason for the name change, “We needed to simplify things. The old 3T MongoChef name confused a lot of people. While a completely separate product, it mixed up the idea of Chef config management tools with the MongoDB database and the 3T integrated development environment.”

The new Studio 3T branding also echoes the naming of Microsoft’s SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). “Our customers regularly compare our IDE to MS-SSMS and we’re pretty flattered by the comparison, “ adds Thomson.

The new naming will not have any impact on existing or new users of 3T – they will simply see the new name next time they log on, but otherwise there will be no changes to the overall experience. Pricing remains the same.

ABOUT 3T Software Labs
3T was founded in late 2013 in Berlin by three friends and NoSQL enthusiasts with many years of experience in both academic research and professional software engineering. It was born from the daily shared experience of working together on large-scale NoSQL-backed projects. They decided to build the finest tools in the market to facilitate the jobs of MongoDB developers and administrators – created by professional developers, for use by fellow professionals. The Studio 3T secure development environment is now used by 100, 000 developers and DBAs globally, making it the most popular IDE in the market.
