DSM Selects ntl:Telewest Business

DSM, a Cambridgeshire based business continuity and IT specialist, has selected high speed communications services from ntl:Telewest Business, part of the Virgin Media group, to ensure that its workplace recovery centre is resilient enough to meet any challenge. By investing in National Ethernet and Ethernet Extension services, as well as ISDN voice connections and Managed Internet Access from ntl:Telewest Business, DSM is safeguarding its reputation as a provider of a reliable emergency home to businesses in the event of a disaster.

DSM specialises in providing businesses unable to operate from their own premises because of an unexpected incident with a fully functioning replacement office environment. It has 600 fully configured seats at its Peterborough workplace recovery centre and works with brands such as Aviva and Thomas Cook. ISDN lines provide clients with direct dial phone numbers and National Ethernet connections deliver secure data connections at speeds of up to 100 Megabits-per-second (Mbps). This enables customers to carry on with business as usual activity in the event of a disaster.

As well as on-site business continuity services, DSM also provides managed services, hosting and data vaulting, also known as offsite data storage, services. Many clients replicate both their data and systems between their offices and DSM premises, whilst others operate more than one data centre and require communications between both. The bandwidth-hungry nature of the services, which involves the transfer of huge volumes of business critical data between sites, means that DSM requires both a robust, next generation network and the ability to scale bandwidth according to its future needs. National Ethernet achieves this by providing 100Mpbs connectivity that can be increased in increments of 10Mbps when required.

The Managed Internet Access services will underpin DSM's plans to develop their managed services business, which the company has identified as a significant growth opportunity. Connectivity for this service can scale up to 100Mbps, allowing DSM to offer a flexible cost-effective communications solution to a wider variety of customers.
