Midland Heart Chooses ntl:Telewest Business

Midland Heart has chosen ntl:Telewest Business, part of the Virgin Media group, for a network overhaul that will strengthen its communications links across 150 sites. The organisation will deploy a high-speed next generation network service as part of its continued expansion to meet market demand for affordable housing and community investment services. The private network will ensure immediate, consistent and resilient access to its operational information throughout the West Midlands, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Staffordshire.

The Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IPVPN), which has 100 Megabits-per-second (Mbps) connectivity to principal sites and up to 10 Mbps to others, will connect Midland Heart's headquarters in Bath Row, Birmingham to all of its other locations. The investment will mean Midland Heart has one of the most sophisticated and high-speed private information networks in the housing sector, and allow it to further streamline its daily operations. The Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network design makes communications between each site highly resilient and enables extra capacity to be added incrementally as required.

Midland Heart has 1,350 staff and manages more than 32,000 homes. As well as housing to rent or buy, it offers supported accommodation for the young, old, homeless and those with mental health issues or learning disabilities. Midland Heart is the largest housing and regeneration business based in the Midlands and one of the largest housing agencies in the UK.
