Mobile Users Are Losing Millions of Pounds a Year

Mobile phone users are wasting millions of pounds each month paying for text and talk minute packages they do not need, found Omio.com, the mobile phone price comparison site.

Omio.com found that 47% of those questioned are using less than half of their contracted minutes. In fact 82% do not even come close to using their monthly allocation of minutes and texts. Omio.com found that 28% of users have unlimited texts as part of their monthly packages.

With more than 30 million mobile phone users in the UK on monthly deals, millions of pounds each year are being wasted on the wrong tariffs.

One participant surveyed by Omio.com was on a 600 any network minutes and unlimited text tariff. This tariff costs £35 a month on an 18 month contract equivalent to £630 a year. However the survey revealed that they only used 250 minutes and 150 texts of their monthly allowance. This tariff typically costs around £15 a month. If they were to switch they would save £20 a month and £270 over an 18 month contract.

Matthew Wheeler of Omio.com comments on the survey: "In the current economic climate lots of people are looking around for ways to cut their monthly expenditure. As the Omio.com survey showed it's possible to save £20 a month just by changing your tariff. Spend a little time working out what your realistic monthly usage is to find a tariff that best suits your needs. You could end up saving hundreds of pounds a year on charges."
