Quicksilva Delivers Secure Integration for Access to Care Service

Quicksilva Software Solutions has delivered secure integration to underpin Access to Care, the new single point of access for healthcare professionals run by Wiltshire Medical Services on behalf of the Wiltshire Primary Care Trust (PCT).

Access to Care is a clinical communication hub, which allows GPs and other healthcare professionals to refer patients to local services, such as Community Nurses and Therapists, in a single transaction. Staffed by triage clinicians, Access to Care uses its evolving directory of services to pass patients onto the most relevant service and handles all the required communication and administration. When treatment at home is not possible, Access to Care can arrange for the patient to be admitted to a Community Hospital, or if necessary, the appropriate District General Hospital, without further recourse to the referring clinician. 330,000 patients across Kennet, North and West Wiltshire are now benefiting from faster, more comprehensive onward referrals through Access to Care.

At the heart of the system, Quicksilva has created a secure web portal that integrates with Access to Care's existing Adastra software, enabling GPs to complete referrals online, rather than filling forms in and faxing or phoning in details. The first system of its type in the UK, it not only cuts the time taken to refer patients, but provides a failsafe method that automatically captures all necessary patient information and avoids the need to retype data.

Quicksilva was selected in December 2007 and the project went live in under six weeks. As well as providing the secure web-based channel for GPs and handling the integration with the Adastra software, Quicksilva has also created a promotional website to drive adoption of Access to Care by healthcare professionals.
