Xerox Unveils New Wide-Format Printers

Xerox is increasing the size of its portfolio of wide-format printers and demonstrating a new color printer for use in creating banners, presentation graphics and vehicle wraps. The company is also introducing a black-and-white wide-format printer for producing construction plans and engineering renderings.

Xerox will show a technology demonstration of the Xerox 8200 Series Color Wide Format Solution, designed for commercial printers and in-plant operations and that can be used to produce indoor and outdoor print applications, at Graph Expo. To be available as a 65- or 90-inch model, the new printers open up an entirely new set of high-value print jobs for customers looking to complement their current capabilities or enter the expanding graphic communications color wide-format market. The Xerox 8200 Series prints at resolutions that range from 360 to 1,440 dpi at typical quality production speeds from 162 to 215 square feet per hour.

Data from InfoTrends shows that 88 percent of print providers in the graphic communications market who plan to buy a new wide-format printer in the next 12 months intend to use it for both indoor and outdoor print jobs. The new Xerox printers will satisfy both markets. The 8200 Series printers are compatible with a wide range of low- to high-cost media types and produce vibrant graphics on indoor and outdoor point-of-purchase displays, banners, life-size photos and floor graphics. The printers use a combination of inkjet technology and environmentally-friendly eco-solvent inks, which means that no ventilation or purification systems are required during production.

Piezo-electric, drop-on-demand inkjet heads with dynamic variable dot imaging technology deliver sharp images, smooth color transitions and increased performance with higher firing frequencies. Intelligent Interweaving Printing Technology enables higher print speeds, minimizes banding, lowers ink usage and provides a greater color gamut.

The Xerox 6050A Wide Format Printer, designed for architectural, engineering and construction companies, is a mid-volume, black-and-white system for operations that require more speed and have higher print volumes than can be met with an entry-level product such as the Xerox 6204 Wide Format Solution.

Printing up to nine "D-size" (24" x 36") images per minute and equipped with the Xerox FreeFlow Accxes Print Server, the new system enables users to keep up with growing demand for printed architectural and engineering renderings, electrical diagrams, GIS/mapping, and construction plans and drawings.

Built on Xerox's 6050/6030 Wide Format Solution platform, the 6050A printer offers 600 x 600 dpi resolution and is available in four configurations – a two- or four-roll printer only, or a two- or four-roll multifunction device with an optional Wide Format Scan System.

The Xerox 6050A easily fits into existing customer workflows. The standard integrated Xerox FreeFlow Accxes Print Server offers advanced software features and functionality. The print server supports Design Web Format for sharing engineering designs. A Raster Feature Key enables direct printing of BMP, GIF, PNG and JPEG 200 file formats commonly found in the AEC environment so users do not need to open files in an editing or viewing application before printing.
