OKI Enhances Lineup of Driver LSIs for Full High-Definition LCD TVs

Oki Electric Industry has announced it will enhance its product lineup for high-performance LSIs used in full high-definition LCD TVs. The three new driver LSIs, MT3126, MT3131, and MT3139, all include features with high-speed drive, multi gray-scales and low heat generation. The models will be shipped in sequence from May 2007.

The three models announced feature drive speed that is doubled from 60Hz, the speed used for conventional W-XGA LCD TVs, to 120Hz, thus improving the response time of LCD pixels. The shift from conventional 8bit multi gray-scales (for 16 million color display) is expected to improve to 10bit multi gray-scales (for 1 billion color display) for more precise color display. What is more, OKI succeeded in enabling this 10bit multi gray-scales without a large cost increase, by using a newly developed DAC (digital to analog converter) circuit. In addition, using its own unique circuit technology, OKI was able to reduce heat generation by 35% thus eliminating the heat issue in the driver LSIs as LCD TVs become larger and faster.
