Telcel Introduces Slim Fastap-Enabled GSM/GPRS Phone to Mexico

Digit Wireless has announced the first Latin American deployment of a Fastap-enabled device. The UP310 is a super sleek slim GSM/GPRS clamshell camera phone enabled with a full alphanumeric Fastap keypad design. The Fastap device launches with Telcel in Mexico. This is the first Fastap-enabled device in Mexico and augments a series of deployments in The Americas for Digit Wireless. Fastap is now available through mobile operators in the United States, Canada and Mexico on both GSM and CDMA Networks.

Telcel's customers, which accounts for 75 percent of Mexico's mobile subscribers, can now purchase the slim Fastap-enabled UP310 flip phone handset with a full alphanumeric keypad designed to facilitate interaction with today's data and messaging services. The Fastap UP310 is currently available in Mexico City and its greater area through a Telcel Amigo Prepaid Kit and is also available postpaid subscribers. Right out of the box, the UP310 with its intuitive full alphanumeric keypad allows customers to quickly and easily access mobile data services and content with a phone that does not compromise form factor or size to deliver a great user experience. The UP310, a super sleek, Fastap-enabled slim phone using a patented keypad technology made up of raised and lowered-keys coupled with error-prevention software to provide a full alphanumeric keypad that has two levels of functionality. With the UP310 Telcel users no longer have to multi-tap text into their mobile phone. The Telcel UP310 empowers users with a full one-touch alphanumeric Fastap keypad to simplify their mobile experience with easy discovery, access and use of Telcel's messaging (SMS, MMS, IM), Wireless Web and 'Ideas Telcel' mobile content services, all while retaining the phone's small size and sleek thin clamshell form factor. The UP310 is a GSM/GPRS Java enabled clamshell phone that measures only 15.4 MM (.6") thick, 96.5 MM (3.8") in height and 49.5 MM (1.9") wide with a weight of 76 grams (2.7 oz.).

Telcel mobile users can also instantly access applications with the Fastap keypad's one-touch capability (M=Messaging, C=Camera, P=Phonebook), allowing users to skip navigating cell phone menus, making applications easier to discover, access and use.

Fastap in it's full alphanumeric layout can be formatted in more than 90 languages creating a truly global phone platform for Device Manufacturers to launch devices in key markets. The Fastap UP310 being sold by Telcel empowers the user to select from 9 different languages (Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Turkish and Russian) for not only the phone interface but also when sending text and multimedia messages.

The Fastap keypad is an enabling technology that can be launched in various implementations including Press-to-Anything and Alphanumeric (Alphabetical, Semi-QWERTY & QWERTY). In the alphabetical implementation of Fastap on a high volume mainstream flip phone, the keypad has been proven to increase wireless data ARPU by 97%. For example, use of a Fastap phone's messaging capabilities have been tied to a 116 percent increase in messaging. The keypad makes it easier for customers to use their phones driving them to increase their usage resulting in higher revenue for mobile operators.
