The Censorship Is Looming over the Internet?..

The censorship is looming over the Internet in Denmark, says the spoke-person of the Danish Pirate Party Klaus Pedersen. In October 2006 a Danish court ruled against the Danish ISP Tele2 and ordered to block all access to the site Allofmp3.com.

According to the ruling, the ISP is willingly infringing copyright if their customers use Allofmp3.com to download music. The court?s decision came after IFPI Denmark sued Tele2 in July. "IFPI is trying to block the Web sites they consider to be illegal", says Pedersen. They have forced the Danish Radio to remove the link to alluc.org although publishing linking to the Web pages is legal. TELE2 declared that whey were going to appeal the ruling but never did it. Later on the largest Danish ISPs followed the court-order and blocked the access to Allofmp3.com. Pedersen says "these events triggered a mixed reaction in Denmark."

According to him, the politicians either welcomed the ruling or kept low profile. IFPI and KODA expressed satisfaction while others, such as IT-POL characterized the ruling as censorship. Pedersen argues this tendency is the evidence of the looming censorship on the Internet. "The arguments for blocking the access to Allofmp3.com are the same arguments the Chinese, North-Korean and Saudi-Arabian governments are using. Denmark has followed a grim example and in my opinion is part of the axis of evil when it comes to censorship."
